Kodak is putting most of its film R&D in cinematic film. Some of that is trickling down to improved C-41 films (Ektar 100) and B&W film (TMY-2). But not E-6.

Fuji seems to be pretty quiet on C-41 and B&W front but managed to revive Velvia 50 and Provia 400 when earlier their earlier E-6 predecessor products had to be discontinued.

That should give us a clear indication of where their respective priorities lie.

E-6, apparently, requires lots of extremely expensive constituents. No question I'd rather be buying those in Yen than in Dollars right now. Whether that is a factor or not in Fuji's thinking - I do not know.

I received an email reply from Kodak today it says:
"Yes, I am sorry to say that Kodak Professional Ektachrome E200 Film was discontinued in 120. It does continue to be available in 135-36. "

No more high speed Ektachrome?

The High-speed Ektachromes have been going away steadily. First P1600 went, then 400x went.

If E200 is really going, and if Elite Chrome 200 goes along with it, there will be NO MORE high speed Kodak slide films left. We will only have 100 speed Ektachromes (EPP, E100G, E100GX, E100VS, Elite Chrome 100 EB, and Elite Chrome 100 EBX) plus a single 64T Ektachrome (EPY) left.

Six 100 speed daylight E6 films isn't really a balanced product lineup--unless one only uses 100 speed films. Thank goodness Fuji makes an excellent ISO 400 slide film or two.

The Kodak 200 speed slide films are both excellent astrophotography films. If they really go, they should be replaced with something else that is high speed and slide, but more modern in image quality, such as a new Ektachrome E400. Is Kodak willing to do this?

I also wonder if Scott S. has any plans to cover this topic on insideanalogphoto.com.

I really hope that we don't loose E200. Such a nice film. I just sent off a roll of the Rollei CR200, which in case you don't know is a 200 speed Rollei E-6 film. I can't wait to see the results. I think I am going to really like it.

Cool. EB-100 is currently the best deal in slide film at $4.69/roll. And it's good stuff, virtually identical to the discontinued E100GX.

ED is a pretty good deal at $5.99 being a 200 speed slide film that can be push processed so well. The Rollei 200 is only $4.99...
