Just thought I would throw this up here in case someone comes across the same problem. I have the EL skyport for my lights, think it is the first model. It was becoming erratic and eventually just stopped working.
I took the thing apart and discovered the metal contact prong that connects to the positive part of the battery had somehow been pushed in too far and was not making contact with the battery. Easy fix, just bend it back into position. There is actually a line on the board showing where it should be. But the thing was still behaving erratically only sometimes triggering the flash with the test button or adjusting the light level. All it needed was some contact cleaner sprayed into the the tiny switches and it now works perfectly.
While I was in there also sprayed some cleaner on the inside of the hot shoe contacts.
Simple fix apart from the fact that to open up it has to gently be prised apart, must originally be glued together which is shame, why they couldn't have just used a screw I don't know....maybe planned obsolescence
