I bought a few rolls of Ektar 35mm and 120 last week to try out, haven't shot it yet I'm waiting until I have an empty camera available. I don't use L/F, but I'm pleased for the members who do.

I don't know, seems like kind of a disappointment to me. I was expecting a new emulsion, not just a popular emulsion in a new format. I mean, it's great for LF photographers, but for people like me with 120 and smaller cameras, it does nothing.

I wonder if those with 35mm cameras felt the same when Ektar 120 was announced?

No, but there was no "new film soon" buildup, short as it was. 120 Ektar just sort of "happened", whereas people were talking about this new film for a few days. I was sort of expecting an Ektar 400.

I guess for those who felt left out there's really no choice other than to start looking for that starter 4x5" camera. Jump right in, the water's fine.

Scott- Do you know if this is the new product they spoke of or if there is more to come?

Take your pick. The fact that we got Ektar in 2008 was miraculous.

If it is true:

1. GREAT NEWS! Any additional large format film is greatly welcome.

2. It will be a preliminary step to axing other films in these formats. My money is on an E-6 emulsion: E-100VS.

I dread the day when 400NC goes away in sheets. I fear it won't be long, personally.

Unfortunately, I suspect that the Ektar sheet film will crowd out the Portra films, which is bad news.

This is great and all and in the interview they talk about using this instead of an Ektachrome....What about the archival properties of Ektar???

That seems to be what Kodak has told us through these interviews. They are acting like any buissness. If it does not sell well enough, they will cut it.

Yup. E-6 will be gone sooner than any other process. Enjoy the hell out of it while it lasts! Nothing is more FUN. I sure wish FUN = $$$.

I don't see Ektar pushing out Portra. I see it being used as a suggested replacement when they discontinue their E-6 sheet films. It shouldn't be long now. 400NC will go too...then we will have nothing but three medium speed C-41 films available in sheet sizes. BORING!

Kodak themselves suggest that it shouldn't be used for portraits and instead point to Portra, but you never know what might happen and soon we could well only have one type of film left...
I would love to be able to shoot color slides with an 8x10 camera, they would be so damned awesome.
Its really sad that such amazing technology is appreciated by so few and that the great Kodak with all their innovation and magic, is being forced into such tight spots.
I really wish for the Ektar to be successful. Not for me, or for film, but for creativity in general. Such tools, such mediums, shouldn't die.

They are. I have used an overhead projector at work to project an 8x10 transparency on the wall - way cool! :D:D:D

I am looking forward to trying out the 8x10 Ektar. I've used it in 120 for landscapes and liked it.
