PS : Some markets will not see new Ektachrome. There the retailers are standing in the first line. Ektachrome there is offered to each pricing THEY (the retailers) are deciding. Thinking of some contries wich suffer from boycott.

I live in the mountains of North Carolina and don't know of a brick and mortar retailer within a hundred miles that sells slide film, so I don't know what a reasonable B&M retailer price would be.

Because if you have the idea to wait a bit for lower pricing you may see higher pricings.
I am very sure about. At the end you may find same procedure as we often realized : EKTACHROME IS OFF - and THEN you have to pay $ 28,99 each roll in USD. !
Because nowbody can say how future will come.... and also Kodak could not say if Ektachrome will be avaible to min.

The recommended retail price for a product is only a start. It can be higher or lower than that, as we see with Leica, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Olympus to varying degrees.
My experience over many decades is that retailers have a cavalier attitude to pricing, and this has become more profound in the pricing of film. It is speculation as to just what Kodak will set as a baseline price, but it does have to recoup development costs.

Look, if we here in Australia bought film from B&H, it would amount to more than twice and a bit more than the pricing you are quoting (Velvia 50 would be aound $28 posted!). And they certainly are not cheap or competitive. We do not have such prices a retail level for Fujichrome. $18 is a starting point for Velvia 50, and $15 for Provia100F -- when and where you can find it at street level retailers -- as mentioned in an earlier post, two retailers now do not stock Fujifilm and others are likely to follow this year.

If people want to desperately use Ektachrome as so often reflected in these threads, they must be prepared and happy to pay whatever is asked, even irrespective of what the competition is offering and charging (and Ektachrome isn't actually going to show up Provia 100F for any particular failings.

Not an advertisement but for people looking to get slide film relatvely cheap there is an seller from China on Ebay called "phoenix-young" selling a lot of cheap films with free international shipping, after hours of scouring many places i think it's the cheapest online seller for people outside the US :

Well I would like to state this is the right time to look foreward to the new Kodak Ektachrome emulsion.
And within the next week we may be angry about the pricing of Ektachrome in 135 or be angry about to wait until the film dealer of our preference is informed about a new Kodak film.
But I would like to state : Nobody has to be angry about the characteristics of the
New film - that is the ONE thing wich is quite clear just today.

My answer if we do not know the characteristics of new Ektachrome is : Yes ....AND....No ....

BECAUSE OF : In historical context EVERY new emulsion of Kodak ( and other manufacturers) did reach an advance in characteristics of most parameters. Perhaps in the very past there were some films wich become more worst after improving the emulsion.
But I can´t remember such kind of issues. And I do remember the introduction of E100G at about 15 years in the past. The advance from this last known improvement was real imense. Kodak spoke about " grainyless" films.
This was a little " overdriven" form of advertising from Kodak marketing - but - "so what " !
Today we should be faire and we should give Kodak a little credit - therefore we might expect that Kodak solve problems with smaler production runs AND is able to higher the quality of the very new Ektachromes.
To me there is no must if a smaler sized coating line results an advance in characteristics of an emulsion. But there might be also no must that the quality is less due to smaler size.
Indeed a real mass production would make it more easy to higher the quality because the costs within a real mass production are more less from testing emulsions and waste a lot of stuff just to reach 2,6 % better parameters. ( in concern of the equivalent of 180 millions 135-36/year from same emulsion ) But I would speculate Kodak design of new Ektachrome AND the production of the new film HAS to show the very best performnce Kodak is able to reach in 2018
And I am quite shure that a comparison of new Kodak Ektachrome with other E6 films would give no reason to be angry of Ektachromes characteristics.
I am VERY sure AgX.......

PS : Remember the examples Kodak gave with Super8 New Ektachrome. It was a mixed workflow of different medias. But some of the advertisement roll was real new Ektachrome with a first "taste" of very advanced characteristics.

Nevertheless " Sherlock" Fujilove got it. The first price of New Ektachrome is "around" USD 13,- AND this is a very cheap offer. So Kodak has made a good job not to let us pay more bucks than to Fuji E6.

Freestyle has it listed on their website for $13/roll, with estimated availability Oct. 16th. As of right now, B&H doesn't have it listed, but has in-date Provia 100F for $12.99, so it looks like the Kodak Ektachrome is competitively priced with the Fuji Provia 100F.

Looks like it'll be time to pick up some Ektachrome soon.

Well Rolfe - what you stated here looks like a very good deal ! That is around 55,- bucks a 5pack.
(shipping isn't so much I would guess).
Kodak is on the right way (just from my point).
The final price is obviously made by each dealer. If a dealer ordered Kodak Ektachrome in bigger amounds he may get a nice price from Kodak for sure. But there must be a minimum pricing from calculation. So theoreticaly some special dealers have the ability to sell films at a lower pricing
in comparison they payed Kodak. (not much lower of course).
B&H is one of the best known dealers with such procedure. A normal procedure in business :
so called mixed calculation.
In the longer term we should be clear about that such lower pricing will increase.
But for today it is a very good deal you made.

I've considered buying film from China on Ebay, however I'm afraid it will arrive fogged. Doesn't containers/packages get x-rayed when entering into the USA from overseas? Or, are my fears false?

Same ideas I have had last year before ordering special Fuji Films direct from Japan.
Some (greater dealers) have guarantees that the shipping is save and that films are market as Films not to x-ray.
But reality is most different in cases of trouble. I would state that original Fuji shipping in big amounds to central dealers outside Japan are save (Fuji would handle this with special transports)
The same is with (official) Kodak exports outside the US.
But all kind of shipping outside Kodak/Fuji transportation is a real RISC for sure.
So try and find out.
