At B&H, FujiChrome Provia 100f is $13.95 a roll. Velvia 50 is currently $11.50 a roll (although that seems lower than its recent pricing - its currently about $20 on Amazon). Kodak is not going to be able to charge $28 a roll in this market.
I live in the mountains of North Carolina and don't know of a brick and mortar retailer within a hundred miles that sells slide film, so I don't know what a reasonable B&M retailer price would be.
You said that a retailer can sell at any price it wants? If Kodak wants to sell the film and the retailer doesn't Kodak can sell them direct. I don't know about Kodak but camera manufacturers do not allow their authorized dealers to sell their cameras at too high a price.

Not an advertisement but for people looking to get slide film relatvely cheap there is an seller from China on Ebay called "phoenix-young" selling a lot of cheap films with free international shipping, after hours of scouring many places i think it's the cheapest online seller for people outside the US :
Agfa CT Precisa - 10 rolls ( Provia 100F in a Agfa package ) for 92.50 USD = 9.25 USD / roll
Agfa CT Precisa - 5 rolls ( Provia 100F in a Agfa package ) for 49.80 USD = 9.96 USD / roll
Provia 100F 5 pack 135/36 for 65.00 USD = 13 USD / roll
Velvia 100 5 pack 135/36 for 66.80 USD = 13.36 USD / roll
Velvia 50 5 pack 135/36 for 75 USD = 15 USD / roll
Velvia 50 120 5 pack - 48.80 USD = 9.76 USD / roll
Velvia 100 120 5 pack - 52.00 USD = 10.40 USD / roll
Provia 100F 120 5 pack - 50.80 USD = 10.16 USD / roll
We do not know the characteristics of this new emulsion.Nobody has to be angry about the characteristics of the New film
- that is the ONE thing wich is quite clear just today.

I sure hope Kodak follows thru, slide film is the reason I still shoot film.
Offers distinct differentiation to digital, that negative film basically doesn't.
I also prefer shooting slides.
When was the last time you saw a good optical analog print?
Ditto and I'll happily process my own.
Current E6 price here (The Lab, Vancouver, BC) is $10.50 CDN (call it $8.40 USD, as of today), processing only, unmounted. Very reasonable, to those who "go hybrid"; for the rest of us, bulk slide mounts are not all that expensive. BTW: The aforementioned is dip-and-dunk.
FindLab has it for $11.00/roll. I just ordered 5.

I've considered buying film from China on Ebay, however I'm afraid it will arrive fogged. Doesn't containers/packages get x-rayed when entering into the USA from overseas? Or, are my fears false?
