I agree. I saw the exhibit this weekend. Also stopped over a Fonthill. Always one of my favorite places. Here's a photo I took there 40 years ago. The subject was the quirky caretaker. I couldn't believe that she sat down for a quick portrait.

The Edward Weston exhibition at the Michener Art Museum is indeed beautiful. There are somem photographs there that have never been reproduced before--except in the book we (Lodima Press) published for this traveling exhibition, which is on sale at the Michenere or is available directly from us.

Yes! They have a rather nice video showing a good bit of the history of Weston's work as well. I cut myself a bit short on time last week and hope to return for a second visit before it closes (March 28).

Dunno about travel, the listing for the Michener is here. As I recall, the bulk of it is from the collection of one couple.

The Edward Weston exhibition is circulated by www.art2art.org. It has traveled to over 20 venues and I believe it will keep on traveling as long as museums want to show it. if you cannot get to see it, our book, Edward Weston: Life Work, except for two of the reproductions, is as close as you will ever get to seeing the originals.

Michael - I saw the exhibition and lingered over the gallery copy of the book on display. It was one of the best - if not THE best - printed photo books I have ever laid eyes on. I plan on buying it at some point, hopefully soon.

I've always been a casual fan of EW, Pepper #30, his nudes, etc., but the exhibition opened my eyes to how great a photographer he really was. Interesting to me (obvious to others, I suppose) was how diverse his work was. So many artists, today and back then, are known as experts in one type of work, but he was a master at many - portrait, figure, landscape, stilllife.

Ah, got it. This is apparently the same exhibit that I viewed in Muskegon, Mi in December 05. A wonderful exhibit that I went back to see several times. I liked it and the presentation so much I purchased a membership to the museum as a way of saying thanks.

Yes, this is the same exhibition that was in Michigan in 2005, but recently about 25 photographs were added to it. So it is now a larger exhibition.

Yes, the breadth of Edward Weston's photography is remarkable. And there are entire aspects of his work that is not in the exhibition.
