Works pretty well on scratches that are not too deep.

Yeah, I've used it for years. Messy, but it works for light scratches, just in the way that fluid mounting reduces dust and scratches for processes not discussed on APUG.

I see. I had one 8x10 pyro neg ruined like that in a big lab. They blamed it on Pyro and the weird color.
I don't go there anymore...
I don't drum scan anymore.

I've also used regular old Vaseline and that worked for me. My brother-in-law, a Kodak tech rep, informed me it was an alternative.

Edwal No-Scratch is oily, but I think it would be easier to remove with film cleaner than Vaseline. It's also not yellow, like Vaseline.

Thanks, I will give a try, I have one neg with a thin scratch line all the way on the horizontal size. It's killing me.

be sure you clean the negative before putting it away after use. and clean the negative carrier as well, it gets messy.

It helps a little. It won't really help if the scratch is in a uniform area like a sky. It minimizes the scratch but then you can see the outline of the oil which slightly increases the density of the negative. In more chaotic areas of the negative it works better.

Yup, No-Scratch works, but, as said, it gets messy and there is some specualtion that the turpentine (some folks just use household turp) in the No-Scratch is harmful to the negative. I don't know, but you can also use the oil from your nose (no kidding) to put on the neg to hide a scratch. easier to clean the neg, too.

That sounds curious. What exactly happened to the neg, and what type of film and what pyro formula was it?

Type was Tri-X processed by myself in WD2D+
I did a post last year and there is a pic of the nega. The liquid went into the emulsion, sank in it.

I tried some No-Scratch but didn't like the difficulty and mess. I found that good ol' human nose oil worked better and was selling at no-cost from myself.

Blimey, I had forgotten all about Nose Oil. We were told about that in college in the early 80s and it semed to work some of the time. One small point though. It is derived from the outside of the nose and not from within!!

Well, once you've got a bottle of No-Scratch, it seems to last for ever. I think mine must be at least 12 years old. I'll wait another 13 years before I drink it.
