A buddy of mine is a roadie/security/stagehand her in Tampa. He worked the September 13 show at the MidFlorida amphitheater, and got 3 of Eddie's (concert used) guitar picks during the stage breakdown.

Now, I'm not a collector, but I have checked, and it seems these picks, known as 'Frankenstats' are made specifically for him, and they are the only ones he uses on stage. So the likelihood of them actually have been used is greater than 90%. I guess if you're into these sort of collectibles, you know what I'm saying.

At any rate, he wants $200 (net) each. Personally, I think that's absurd, but it's less then what they go for on ebay, and I do understand the value to a collector.

If nothing else, we get to look at them here....

Looks like they are made in the U.S.A., thats gotta be worth something.

...

My daughter has a punch to make her own picks, maybe she needs to start selling them.

Yeah, this has got to be one of the weirdest things I've ever sold (except for the telephone poles back in 1998 on ebay). Personally, I wouldn't pay more then $5 for this, but there seems to be a collector's market, and these are not available to the general public.

I figured if there happens to be a huge EVH fan here, they might be interested.

I like VH, but not this much! LOL

If Eddie is nonchalantly leaving them lying around like this after a gig I'd think their value would not be so high but who knows. Let us know how this sales goes...

If Eddie were to die today and you offered it with his signature Stratocaster, it would be one heck of a deal. Meanwhile, I got a few guitar picks from Fred Friction...

Just curious, what is there to document and prove these were obtained in the way they were and that Eddie used them? I see a lot of identical/similar EVH guitar picks for sale online. What's to prove he did not just buy those and use the opportunity of working the show to then sell these? At least that's what I'd be asking before I shelled out $200 smacks for a couple of thin pieces of plastic.

I would think shipping those would have been a bit of a challenge.:whistling:

I bought John Coltrane drummer Elvin Jones own TShirt for 30 dollars with papers. His Cymbals , Drumsticks , Drumming Gear is faraway cheaper with comparing 200 dollars pick.

Churchill own letters goes from 200 dollars.

If you are enough idiot , you would invest that and lose in the drawer.

The 'proof' is that they are not available for purchase for anyone except Eddie. There are the 'Oval EVH' picks that were available by the general public, and then there are the ones with the signature, which are produced solely for his use. It seems those in the know (of which I wasn't) know this.

Actually, they were sold as a local pick up only. All 30 of them went to a nearby electric company. Why they (the selling electric company who contracted me) didn't just call around, I'll never understand.

They were not nearly as difficult to ship as the 2,000 4ft specialty light bulbs that were not in packaging. Had to get creative that time.

I have an unlimited supply of Coltrane's old reeds for sale to go with these guitar picks. Hey same price only $200 each! Even the old strings EVH used to play Spanish Fly for the same price of $200!

Kirks,

I looked to first ebay listing and VH Pick goes from 290 dollars. For 4 picks your friend would have 360 dollars more than 200 dollars listing in APUG.

Make your friend a favour and sell them at ebay. This is photographic forum and everyone will want to invest that KEH 125 Dollars Hasselblad V. Body. I found this forum is not rich peoples forum , everyone is struggling except california computer engineers

Oh yeah, they will be going on ebay, but I was too lazy to list them yesterday, so I threw them up here.

Hey IC,

Can you sell me a linton poly bassoon for 200 dollars. I am thinking for new year.
When I was a teenager at 85 , we were ordering cassette recordings with a list on paper. All we have a radio and walkman. My lifes first record order was VH Jump. I did not hear any better keyboard sound after these years , I listen elp, rick wakeman, pink floyd, jan hammer, etc daily but that record is the best engineering. I dont like his guitar style.

I see a slew of them in the sold eBay section with his signature going for $15 or so. I guess I'll chalk this up to not knowing the guitar pick market or how to tell the difference from these here to those other ones in eBay. I don't mean to question your sales posting though being a photography forum perhaps questions of unrelated things would spur such interest or questions. Good luck with the sale, those who are in know will bid or buy I'm sure.

Umm... no, you don't see these for $15 or so. If you do, please give me the link. Lowest this one sold for was $95. It just seems to me like you're trying to unnecessarily interfere with my offering.

I'm sorry. I'll shut up. I was just trying to understand the difference. I searched the SOLD and completed auctions under "Eddie Van Halen Guitar picks" and I see EVH guitar picks with his signature that's all. You can go do a search. And like I said I do not know the difference and was trying to understand. I apologize, I'll go away now.

It's like the difference between an f/1.2, f/1.4 and f/1.8 50mm lens to a non-photographer. They're all 50mm, so why is one worth $15, and the other $300. Subtle differences.

there is some functional difference between those lenses though. a more accurate analogy would be a regular camera strap vs a camera strap that had been used by Henri Cartier Bresson. ie a piece of equipment not central to the process, and not functionally better in any way, but worth more to a particular kind of person - someone with a collector mentality (as opposed to user mentality).
