This has been a useful discussion. Some of the cobwebs are starting to clear a bit. Orders were of course for a series of slides covering a theme (or custom set). Orders were filled from stock supplies of slides. When a particular item was running low we would pull that neg and make more slides. When I got new neg to shoot, I would clean and mount the neg, then fire off maybe 10 shots. My supervisor would develop the film and look for color balance and problems (like dust, scratches, etc.). When all was good I would shoot some number of copies based on whether or not the item was popular or not. Film was developed and slides made. Anyway, we must have used filters to balance the color. Also, I'm sure each neg had a corresponding starting values for filtration. Often no changes were made from the test run - or so I feebly recall.

I wonder what happened to all those negatives. Thousands of them.

Freestyle sent me an email announcing their new ECN2 kits.

Yesssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been waiting like 15 years for this!!!!!!!!! No joke. I will finally develop color myself once these become available...makes it totally worth it...assuming it's the correct ECN II chemistry (e.g. not C-41 or ECP, etc.)

I get best results printing pushed Vision3 5219 (500T) developed in C-41. Proper (ECN-2) processing gives lower enough contrast to make a difference in RA-4 printing, but I'm fairly new to RA-4 printing so I haven't printed that many Vision3 negatives, but for now (with RA-4 printing in mind) I'll stick with C-41 negatives.

This is a scan of print from V3 5219, push2 in C-41:
