Eclipse of the Moon

Just been watching the red moon eclipse (between the clouds). Very impressive. No I didn't take any photographs.

All I can see is a very dim red glow behind the thick haze.

I've been running out with my camera, but there is too much cloud-cover. I did see it as the eclipse began, but there haven't been any breaks in the clouds since only 1/3 was eclipsed.

Here in the Atlanta GA area the cloud cover is too heavy, and there is too much light scatter from street lights and the city to see anything at all. Last year I had "equipment failure" that is to say I screwed up. RATZ!!!

I watched the begining for a few minutes and then went out for max eclipse. Right at max a huge cloud obscured it for 5 minutes and then I got a good view for a few minutes. Its much darker than I expected at full eclipse but still impressive. Now I need to sleep, its 4.00am here in UK.

We watched it for a while. I wanted my daughter to see it, but it is not that exciting to a 6 year old. It was a bit hazy with thin clouds here with a few gaps of clear that I took advantage of for a few pictures. It looks like it is just about max now; so maybe I will go back out not that the rest of the evening has settled down.

Netherlands: went into an open spot of the forest - beautiful and clear ! The owls were exited. Now it is eclipsing again . . .

I can start to see a little silver of a moon, about 5 minutes ago.My cat is leaking the salt off my forearm as I sit, he is excited also.

It was overcast in the East so the Moon could not be seen.

The moon rose here fully in eclipse, and looked pretty neat. Then as it got dark you could see the typical red color. My favorite part was when the sun just touched the bottom. Fog came in a little later and I can see through the fog now that it's nearly over.

I aimed a 200mm lens and tried to get the horizon and the barely visible moon rising. My only color film was Kodak Gold 200 in my N2020, and at first I couldn't figure out how to make it take a longer exposure, but I fired off a couple 1 second and maybe a 2 second exposure... I'm not holding out much hope that it will amount to much. Fun to see.

We had some wonderful views here in the San Francisco east bay. Watched it with my family and in-laws from our roof after our mid-autumn festival dinner (my wife is Chinese). My 4 1/2 year old daughter was enamored by it and my 14 year old son who's deep in teen-age "whatever" attitude lately surprisingly did too. I did not plan for any photos but my wife wanted some so I did set up the tripod and shoot a bit with my Sony NEX-6 digital camera adapter/mounted with my older film-era Contax SLR 100-300/4.5-5.6 Vario-Sonnar, which I think is the sharpest lens I've ever owned. Got some decent digi-shots though I'll be honest moon and star photography bores me for the most part.

Stayed up to see if the clouds would part for a while. Nope. Heavy rain over hours. Would be great to see if anyone got some images on Film/paper
