The biggest problem is the Hollywood types DON'T pay their taxes!! so the state is always trying to throw something new at us, they just published a report and 80% of unpaid taxes are either parttime residents or out of state companies, it amounts to almost 5 billion dollars....and they say it is too expensive to try and collect, so who do you think they are trying to get to make up the difference!!!!

Not being funny but there will be a nationwide sales tax on internet sales within 2 years. Once it is place there will also be local taxes on internet access.

The state legislatures have been working on this since the Supreme Court said there has to be a unified tax code SO sale tax will be collected at point of destination, not point of origin or point of sale. Just think of all the rich towns collecting more and more taxes and the poor towns crying racism and class warfare. Ought to be fun.

All towns that sold-out for warehouse space will lose.
All towns that sold-out for strip malls will lose.
All towns that sold-out for housing developments will win.
All towns that didn't sell-out will just keep on keeping on.

Has anyone ever seen taxes go down?
When's the revolution, or do we just sit down and collect welfare?

I already pay tax on internet access, it is collected as our local access tax, so not worried about that one,....

I have my doubts we will have taxes on internet sales in two years, is this your speculation, or do you have an inside track to something that we don't know about,, they have been trying to do it for a number of years, but still have not been able to overturn the law in place that prevents the tax yet.

Hi Dave,

No inside track, just observations. The Supreme Court made their ruling approx. 2yr ago, the states do not need the same tax code or amount, just this same style (point of destination, sales or origin). Washington state jumped on this with both feet instantly, so have most other states.

The town of Kent, WA stands to lose over $5 million per year in sale tax collections (they never told anyone they were collecting). Wonder why no one ran for re-election. Federal Way, WA stands to gain this much and more for the same reason.

All the town govt. are gearing up for the change now, so expect the internet sales tax within 2 years.

Why should they. The USA is the most under-taxed nation on earth (just ask our non-US members!)

The disparity between rich and poor, that gulf on it's way to becoming an ocean, will bring the revolution.

Because we don’t get anything for our money. One important thing you left out about other places paying higher taxes is that they get medical etc.. We get nothing of course unless you are a foreigner right off the boat then you get anything you need while the American citizens footing the bills keep getting screwed...

What we get is the most expensive military ever conceived. How many schools and hospitals could have been built with the $300 billion we are spending in Iraq? I read somewhere that for every car that GM makes, $6000 of the cost of the car is for medical for current and retired employees. The $300 billion in Iraq would go a long way to providing medical coverage for the 45 million americans who don't have any, most of whom work full time and play by the rules, or are children.

Hi Sean,

The state of Washington already collects internet sale tax. They went to court and got the records from all the companies that sell cigarettes on the net and back charged everyone who had bought cigs for the state tax not paid. Go to 'my ebay' and see if they have the entire record of everything you ever bought there.

This was not meant to start the soup box, just observations of what is already happening. The interent sales tax is coming and soon. The local towns are losing too much revenue from lost sales and closed businesses.

This SHOULD only apply to the U.S.A. and it appears they are going to collect from the buyers at the point of destination, your local state. Too bad no one has ever seen a politician say no to free tax money, have they? It is safe to assume they will all jump on this faster than you can remember their names.

LAZ; I decided to leave New York when I noticed 'they' were taking more out of my paycheck than I was.

I have, many times; I'll take the M31 over most of the interstate roads in the US. While our roads may be larger and broader in scope, the actual road conditions are not very good - potholes, uneven surfaces.

Isnt that the truth. And have you ever been to the high country? Driving along sheer cliffs and drops without a single guard rail. Totally nuts! If a tire ever blew out along these roads you are dead.
