If I remember correctly, I purchased a lens adaper from him, and it was described correctly and arrived with out any problems, I have not purchased filters from him, but if I needed some, would not hesitate to get them from him as my other purchase went fine.

Thanks Dave. Needless to say his prices are more than reasonable and I'm in need due to my recent step into LF!

I bought a 48mm to 49mm adapter from him for my QL17. It was brand new, cheap and arrived swiftly and well packaged. I would not hesitate to buy from him again.

Another supplier I have bought from several times is this one:
http://stores.ebay.com/Active-Industries
Particularly good are metal screw-in lens hoods:

but there are lots of filters too.
I have also bought in particular Heliopan filters from:
Dead Link Removed
Only slightly cheaper than UK shop prices but much faster.

The glass is somewhat poor quality, but for large format (8x10 contact printing, which I do) I do not notice any degrading in the image. However, with smaller formats you will see a loss of sharpness and quality in the image.

Here is a test. Purchase a VERY high quality filter and take a picture of tree branches against a clear sky. Next, put on a cheep, low quality filter and take the exact same picture (same exposure, development, ect) and see what happens. You will surly notice a difference between the two images.

Conclusion-Its worth the extra bucks to buy good quality filters.

I took your word for it the first time  and purchased several things from him in addition to the filters. Got a prompt reply to a little question I had and his prices are very very reasonable.

Besides if they suck, SatinSnow will refund my $$ because the CEO's advice comes with a $$ back guarantee right? D:

am i missing something here...

"Blue Filter -
...With Black & White film it will do many different things but the most common is turning blue Black. Like the famous Ansel Adams Moonshot, moon shot while still daylight but the addition of the dark blue filter made it look like night!"

wont blue filters turn blue skies WHITE when shooting B&W film?

Of course it was a dark red, back lighting... that's a stupid mistake, though a rather funny one  The law of colour complementarity works equally in color and BW photography, of course.

I didn't read his descriptions but I've used a blue filter maybe once in my life to enhance a misty morning light......

I e-mailed him, I'll report what he says (I would plead "cut and paste error" )

Blue filters on blue eyed models with pefect skin can be stunning. Without the perfect skin it can be scarry.

I've bought a number of lens adapters, step-up rings, and hoods from this seller (both on eBay and on his web site at camerahunter.com) over the last year. I haven't bought any filters from him, but everything I have bought has been exactly as he described it and arrived quickly. His shipping prices are reasonable (something that's rare on eBay) and he ships quickly. All in all, I'd buy from him again. If I was in the market for filters, I'd check to see what he had without hesitating.

Edit: I should have added that I'm in no way connected with the seller other than having purchased from him.

I bought some of his filters and haven't had any problems. The rims aren't as nice as B+W, but the price is a lot less!

I have purchased several items from this person and haven't had any problems with any of the items or the way the sale was handled.

I don't think that's his website (www.camerahunter.com) as it says the photographer who has the photos on that site passed away in 2003.

Hi,

I've had a lot of hassle with this guy. I brought some stuff from him a few months ago and it never turned up. He kept on ignoring emails and phone calls and dragged it on so that I was outside of Paypal's time window for reclaiming the money back. When I left negative feedback for him he accused me of being a liar and of never contacting him. I only lost a few pounds but it was the principle and his attitude that really annoyed me. There's some similar responses about him on photo.net and just about all his negative feedback on eBay says the same thing.

Basically if you have any kind of problem with your order then be prepared for a long drawn out fight  I certainly won't be using him again.

Cheers

Mike

FWIW. Today I received my filters and step rings from this guy. Perfect ebay transaction as far as my experience goes. Quick, courteous and he even bumped me up to priority mail at no charge.

That seems to be what happens for 95% of people. Unfortunately, when things do go wrong he just ignores you or turns nasty. I've been very courteous and polite in my emails, but no response at all. Just some abuse in the followup to the negative feedback I left him. He even stated in his reply that he had refunded my money. Which he hasn't!

An interesting development happened the other day when he sent me a feedback withdrawal request. I still haven't received anything so I'm not sure why he's done that.

It's shame really as he's got a lot of really useful stuff on his website that I'd love to buy. Someone said on photo.net that the problems stem from the fact that he's a "one-man band" and obviously over worked. It may be a reason but it still doesn't excuse rudeness.

Anyway, as we say here in Britain, "I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole"!

Cheers

I love that line! Much better than our "I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole"! (of course here in the states even if one knows what a barge is I doubt they know what it is to pole one along the Avon!

Yes it is a shame when a seller is stupid enough to piss off the customer. I've never been able to figure out how some people get to be merchants or sales people when they clearly have trouble with human interaction.

When someone selling or serving is clearly unhappy dealing with me I often say to them "you would have a great job if it were not for the customers huh?" No, they don't get it, but it's fun.

Best,
Bob

I don't recommend buying from "camerahunter" on Ebay

I have been very disappointed by this seller. I placed an order for a number of items (about $100.00 worth) and they didn't arrive. Initially, he suggested patience, and stated as follows:

If there ever is a non delivery I can always send a second package out. No matter what people say in my feedback I'm really not a monster and
not hard to get along with. Everything will work out fine.

Unfortunately, he is no longer responding to my emails, and telephone messsages remain unanswered.

Worse, before I realised it, I had let three months pass, and I can no longer even leave negative feedback

It has really been my only truly bad experience on Ebay

Same with me. He knows how to play the system to his benefit and to string you along until it's too late to claim back on eBay, paypal etc. Did you pay by credit card? In which case you could try contacting your credit card company and see if it's not too late to claim back through them.
