Easy Paper Safe idea

Hi.
As I got tired of opening the box of paper, unfolding the bag and then take out the piece of paper I did a simple and small paper safe for the test strips, I do tests in 4x5 this was mainly done to use it when I'm printing color since I'm very clumsy in the dark.
So to the paper safe, it is simple an neoprene 7" tablet sleeve and two pieces of cardboard hinged together with some masking tape and the backing paper of a 120 roll. the zipper (zip?) leaks a tinny bit of light, but the black cardboard envelope takes care of that.

Looks like more work to get paper into and out of than a conventional counter top or drawer paper safe. Might be helpful if you're short on counter space, though.

Yes, it is a bit more work than a real paper safe but... I have little space and it was easier than building a paper safe out of wood board.

Oh, no doubt about that. Not to mention testing your construction for light leaks.

It is a shame that you cannot get your hands on a plastic, dedicated paper safe, where all you do is lift the lid. But you COULD make a workaround by getting a box, even a photo paper box which has inner sides in black, and place duct tape on the far end to act as a hinge, with ample folded tape on the front top, so you could simply just lift that folded tape on the front top, in order to obtain paper. I would not put in more than ten sheets at a time because it is a bit risky. (i.e., iI you turned the box upside down you might get light inside, or if you dropped the box, it might open. - David Lyga

I tried something like that with an iPad box but it has light leaks, but the tablet sleeve with the cardboard insert is easy to use so I'm not complaining.

The most vulnerable parts of a paper box are the corners. You could put electricians tape firmly into those corners.

I LOVE MY PAPER SAFE - it's just a drawer in one of the cabinets, made light-tight with a hinged lid, painted black inside. The drawer is about 15" x 20"; open the drawer, flip the lid up, grab your paper and close it back up.
