Eastman Kodak's CEO, Jeffrey J. Clarke, called a press conference early this morning and made this startling announcement:

"It was only a matter of time before some clever Kodak engineer figured out a way to capture digital images with all those readily available 35mm cameras that have been stored in the closet for the last few years. This invention is the breakthrough that we at Eastman Kodak have been dreaming about since we invented digital photography in 1976."
Micro-thin 24MP Kodak CMOS sensors have been laminated to a clear Eastman Estar 35mm Base Emulsion #04012019 which can be fitted into any standard 35mm cassette. Kodak has already obtained a patent for this device.

The entire flexible film sensor is encapsulated into a standard 35mm cassette and will be compatible with all 35mm cameras. The inner core of the cassette contains the micro-electronics and rechargeable lithium-ion power source. A removable USB 2.0 connector allows immediate access to all images simply by plugging into any standard Mac or Windows PC, with download times of only one second per image at full resolution. Images will be captured in both RAW and JPEG formats simultaneously. Kodak will provide software and share technical data with all camera and computer manufacturers.
Mr. Clarke concluded:
"Eastman Kodak is about to make the most dramatic turn-around in US corporate history."

There have been enterprises on this matter long before. Though the products never reached the market.
And those had no press releases on April 1st.

Sorry but it is not film. How do you make a print from it?? Digital storage is an abstraction, no image is formed.

'I was given the prototype to beta-test. It works flawlessly. It is ingenious.'

Really?!?!?!?...

In case others haven't noticed today's date... nope, I shouldn't have to tell you...

Just like Ektachrome, it should be available in 120 and all sheet film sizes up to 24x30 by this date next year !

Finally be able to use my Bantam 828 again

It's April 1st. Otherwise it's a great invention has yet to be realized.

The idea is interesting but completely impractical, even for the other 364 days of the year. All my 35mm cameras either advance the film between exposures or require me to do so. To make a device like this work, you would have to find a way that the film universally appears to advance to all/most cameras without actually advancing.

I can imagine the difficulty loading this sensor into a Barnack Leica.

"Nonsence" I just wanted to state : " He is drunk (Mr. Clarke) why some others couldn't avoid this press desaster?????

But you just cleared it up (where is my callender....??) ...oh 1.April - thanks AgX

with regards

PS : Digital film:pinch::sick::pinch::sick:

I would have believed you (yeah right) if not for one minor detail, Jeff Clarke stepped down as CEO just a few months ago.

You can advance the film to cock the shutter but the film won't advance. Don't put the leader in the take up spool.

Oh lawd, here we go again. I seem to see some version of this every year around this time!

A few years ago -around 2002 or thereabouts there was a proposal to fit a 35mm cassette with all the electrical bits and pieces that would normally be contained elsewhere in a digital camera body and there was a sensor that fitted over the area where the film would be exposed. It would have been the 1st full frame sensor. The other end of the camera where the film would be wound was to be adapted to hold the batteries. The wind on would have been disabled which posed the problem of how to cock the shutter blinds. It came to nothing and the idea just faded away and died

However, it is possible! I have heard the same thing, and having held a lot of sensors and circuitry in my hands, I know it would fit.

In the last couple of weeks B & H had a whole bunch of listings for a system with a 16 Mp sensor and a number of different adapters for different 35mm SLRs. I learned about it from one of the web ads that show up here on Photrio.
I should have marked them, because I cannot find them now!

The biggest Technical challenge is getting the frame counter to wind up to 14,000 exposures. :ninja:.

Oh that thing is not worth mentioning. It big, fat and worse than Kodak implement on Nikon and Canon SLR.

Absolutely stunning development!!!

We can use our beloved 35mm cameras and have almost immediate feedsback as with Polaroid!!!!

Sure, it won't have the appearance of a film image, but our cameras are no longer becoming obsooete - in fact they are more enjoyable to use than dedicated digits cameras!!!!!

And their price / value will keep going up!!!!!!

This is like the most awesomeness April 1 news ever!!!!!!!

You know better than any of us I guess. So what kind of price if someone is to make it?
