Eastman High Contrast Panchromatic Film 2369 / 5369

This film (categorized as a "Title Film" on Kodak's movie film website) looks like it could be used like Technical Pan as a camera film, though the speed is much slower. I'm thinking of buying a roll and trying it out. But I have a question about it, from the following description of the base:

Does that imply the Estar based version does not have the antihalation layer? They're the same price, I'd far prefer to buy the Estar version...unless by doing so I'd be piping light down my film when using it! Anyone know? Or do I have to call Kodak and try to track down someone there who knows obscure details like this?

This is certainly an interesting film. Its sharpness is extremely high; the grain looks like it is somewhat more than Tech Pan was. I notice a considerable dip in the spectral response in the blue-green area. Fortunately, that will probably not cause problems with too many scenes, but it may affect filter factors. Unlike Tech Pan, this film does not have enhanced red sensitivity. At first I thought this might be a revival of the old High Contrast Panchromatic instrumentation film, but this film seems to have somewhat more contrast and better sharpness. That probably makes it more suitable for special effects masks. The high contrast may pose a problem, even with POTA or SPUR type developers. But it is certainly worth a try.

Yes, though I don't see that they really come to any firm conclusion on it one way or another, so I was going to try it for myself. And they don't answer my main question: is the Estar version missing the antihalation layer? (5369 is the acetate version, 2369 is the Estar version.)

Well, I ordered a roll of the 2369. I guess if it's missing the antihalation layer, I'll just have a different kind of fun with it! (Whether I'll be able to have 1000 ft of halated fun remains to be seen... )
