I have an early model Rolleicord Art Deco camera and would like to use the Rollei brand metal push on lens hood (or the clamp on type) with a push on yellow Rollei filter.

Is it possible to use both at the same time? I have not been able to find any photos or examples.

I am asking before I invest in a push on Rollei hood.

Thanks!

They do on my old Rolleiflex Standard (1934). I have both the push-on yellow filter and the push-on hood used concurrently.

Richard,

Nice. Is yours the 28.5mm size? Any pics you could post?

I see that Rollei offered 2 different styles of lens hood, one that is simply push on and the second a push on with levers on the side to tighten it. Is one preferred more than the other?

Thanks!

I preferred to shoot my old Rolleicord in diffused light to avoid all those slip-on filters. I have one with Bay 1 for taking lens and slip-on for viewing lens though.

I'll measure and take a photo tonight.

JPD,

Nice example shots. Is one of the styles you show preferred over the other or do they both work well?

I have a push on 28.5mm yellow filter ordered and will be here this week. I am asking help here before I order the hood since it appears either style will work.

Do you have a preference?

A lot less money and just as effective to use an inexpensive push on adapter w/ a series filter and hood. That's what I used on my Rolleicords w/ Triotars, and a Rolleiflex Standard w/ a Tessar. I can't remember the size, but 28.5 sounds about right. Easy enough to lay a ruler on top of the lens and measure it though.

The Rolleiclub link below has great info on these cameras and is usually accurate, but it lists the filter as being screw on, which I don't think is true.

Remember that this type of filter can only be used together with the clamp-on lens hood: Dead Link Removed because the outer diameter is much bigger (36 mm) I think they made the filters that way so that they would not vingette when you're shooting wide open with the 3,5 Tessar.

The Rolleiflex Standard has a "peg" that fits the "notch" on the clamp-on hood so it can't rotate.

I've had no problems with the push-on hood and "normal" 28,5 mm filters, though. I've used them with both the Rolleiflex Standard and Rolleicord I (Art Deco).

The Rolleiclub link below has great info on these cameras and is usually accurate, but it lists the filter as being screw on, which I don't think is true.

The thread on the lens mount is only for the retaining ring for the front element, and it's not 28,5 mm. That site has a few errors here and there. They also use the weird naming of different camera models that some collector came up with, like "Rolleicord IId". There is no such model. "Type 4" or "fourth model" would be more correct.

JPD,

OK, well sounds like the clamp-on hood may be what I am leaning toward getting. They are pricey for sure - the reply from momus sounds like a less costly alternative, however, I want to use the Rollei branded hood since it just looks "right" on the camera.

The filter I have on order looks like the one that you shared on the link.

Yes, it's the clamp-on one you need, then.

It will look right, work well and you only have to buy it once. I don't even remember what I gave for mine, but I know it was worth it. Sure, there are cheaper alternatives, but they will not "feel" the same as the original accessories. I have a few modern B+W push-on filters, and they work very well with the Rolleis'. Same german quality, and B+W made Rolleifilters for a while IIRC.
