There is a reason people continue to pay over a thousand dollars for the legendary Goerz Gold Dot dagors made in the final years after Schneider bought Goerz Optical Co.
A couple of reasons actually. First, they are tack sharp lenses, but so are many others. Secondly though, is the magical properties these lenses seem to apply to scene contrast. Even the most difficult contrast seems to be helped ~ tamed by a coated Dagor.
So, in the late 1960's Schneider needed a wide field copy lens, and having bought the rights to the Dagor design, they produced these Dagor type G-Clarons for about 2 1/2 years before they went to the cheaper to produce Plasmat's.
This lens is the "poor man's" Gold Dot Dagor. And yes I would stack it up in a measured competition with the expensive legendary version any day of the week. This will perform just as beautifully...but for about a sixth of the initial expense. BTW the Copal runs perfectly, and the aperture scale is correct for the lens. This lens covers 8X10 with about 1 1/2" wiggle room to move around in!
I actually have 2 of these to sell. The one that did the image above has a pock mark in the rear group. You can see it didn't affect anything in image transmission. I'll ask $195 for the one that did the photograph of the Model T, and $225 for the one in the pictures above. Your choice!
