Amidst the steady news of dying labs and dwindling E6, it was good to see The Slideprinter AKA Denver Digital Imaging post this on their facebook page this past weekend:

Great News!

We have installed a brand new Tecnolab E6 dip and dunk film processor. This processor has never been installed before; it is most likely the only new processor in the USA! We are dedicated to E6 processing; this processor is new and will provide many years of quality film processing. Many labs are reducing their E6 services we are happy to see a rise in the number of customers shooting E6 films especially medium format and 4x5.

While we are still processing film, don’t forget we are Denver Digital Imaging Center; we have been leaders in the digital side of photography since before photography and digital capture became synonymous. Keep us in mind for all your photographic and Giclee projects.

I've recommended Slideprinter many times here and elsewhere but have no association with them, other than 20+ years of satisfying customer experience.

This is good news. Their statement about rise in E6 processing I would assume is also related as a result to those who may have stopped that service. Regardless, the "positive" side is they're getting the business and apparently upgrading to a newer unit as a result. :D

And Tecnolab still offers their processors...

But offers and sales are different things.

I might go to these guys, too. I've always been happy with my relatively local Swan Labs, but their prices for E-6 have gone way up.

Since Samy's stopped processing E-6, I switched to Dwaynes. Maybe I will give these DD guys a try. Dwaynes threw away my "extra" frames from my film last time.

I didn't know Samy's had stopped. When did that happen?

Samy's dropped all E-6 and B&W when they had to relocate to a new facility in Santa Barbara as their 10 year lease was up and they could not renew it. They moved to new locale May 1 this year.

Since then I've used Datachrome in Santa Ana with excellent results for E-6 in both 120 & 4x5. They're extremely quick on turnaround time.

However, B&W I'll need to send to A-I who no longer does E-6 either.

Thanks Trail Images,

I am happy to hear that Data-Chrome is still healthy and going. They are GREAT for E6 processing.

I need to shoot some more E6 jsut so I can send it to Data-Chrome.

I've been told by the camera shop that does my film processing that they will do E-6 as long as they can get chemistry. They do a great job, and their scans aren't bad either (unlike the crappy scans you get at Wal-Mart and Walgreens).

fyi, Samy's in SB: They decided not to risk moving the Refrema to the new store (on 530 State Street) and sold the machine (to someone who wanted it for spare parts.) It's not that there wasn't a big enough demand for E-6 (there was), but just that the machine itself was getting old and moving it isn't that easy (there was a fear of damaging it, etc..) Also Samy Kamienowicz was never really very big on doing processing anyway. There was an attempt (long before digital) to get him to establish a film processing 'empire' but apparently he felt more comfortable to stick with the hard goods.

Anyway, as it stands now the plan is to do B+W out of Fairfax or Santa Ana (I can't remember exactly which location), C-41 (roll film only) is still in SB, and E-6 and sheet film will go to The Icon (on Wilshire in LA) via courier (The Icon is very good, btw.) And all Samy's stores will have courier service for customers.

btw, they are still in the midst of moving things and not quite fully open yet.

I knew they had a good amount of work, just circumstances changed as you've outlined in your comment. I had excellent service on all of my E-6 and B&W with the Samy's group in SB for a few years after my local friends shop closed here in Riverside.

Anyway, looks like there are still a good amount of folks out there shooting and processing E-6, which is a good thing. Thanks for the update on Samy's changes overall.

I asked my local lab about this on Friday, they tell me they are doing E6 every day and B&W twice daily. That sounds like a rather healthy situation to me. For context the lab is on England's south coast over in Bournemouth.

That is good news. Maybe the situation for E-6 isn't as dire as some have said. We can only hope that Ferrania can bring some more production of online soon, since Kodak stopped producing it in 2012.

There is of course the possibility that he is kept busy with work that would previously have gone to other labs.

I am a frequent customer of The Slideprinter/ Denver Digital Imaging and am happy to report that they are still running E6 daily as of April 2021! I highly recommend them! I have been very satisfied with all the work they have done for me, and they are very quick with turnaround times as well.

I'm going back to shooting E6 since there's a lab on the north side of Atlanta. They seem to have pretty decent priceing. Looking at my old slides especially in 4x5 just blow me away. It's so nice not to have to look at orange film and try to figure out what the image is.
