Hello,
Has anyone purchased a carbon fiber tripod from this ebay outfit-amvona.com? Pros/cons??
Thanks
Arthur, NYC

I haven't bought a CF tripod from them, but I bought a lateral tripod arm with multiple camera mounts for either copy work or mounting more than one camera on one tripod, and it's okay and was cheap, but I'm kind of ambivalent about it. The build is a bit light for large format.

Hi Arthur,

I have purchased a carbon monopod, carbon tripod and the lateral support.
I like them. The carbon tripod is perfect for my crown graphic.
The one i purchased is the Pro Carbon Fiber Aluminum Alloy Camera Tripod Kit CF883.
It is light weight and easy to hold while walking. I think the ball head that came with it is a bit small but it works.
The only cons is there communication. It took me 2 days of calling and emails to order some extra plates for the ball head.

I defiantly would buy another one.

I have bought a background stand and a set of CF tripod legs from them at auction. I am pleased with what I got. The tripod is a "Dynatran" AT-A103T which is a 4-section rated to hold 17 pounds. While I doubt it compares with a Gitzo, I paid about $83 including shipping. I got four sections to keep the folded length shorter. It isn't as solid with the 4th section out, but mostly using a waist level finder on my Bronica, I don't need to go that high. (I put a Bogen/Manfrotto ballhead on it.)

Sorry for the late response.

I purchased an AT-6705A from Amvona via eBay but is was not a carbon fiber tripod. The only problems that I had were:
  1. After a hike, one of the small screws on the tripod clamps disappeared and it took a couple months of calling them to get a replacement sent. They are not well set up for that type of service. I strongly recommend that you put Lock-Tight on any small screws for any tripods.
  2. Carrying a non Carbon Fiber tripod on a long hike at 11,000 feet is not a good idea.
