I had to DX code some 35mm cassettes. This was pretty easy.

I put some aluminum tape in the approximate location on the cassette.
I put the cassette in the camera in question.
The sensor pins made marks on the aluminum tape.
I printed some exposure index labels with a label-maker and used these labels to cover the appropriate areas to keep the sensor from touching.

If desired, the labels peel off without bringing the aluminum tape up, so you can re-do the coding as you please.

This was super easy, did not take any special gluing, printing, measuring or alignment.

wonder if it will confuse the high end cameras? The EOS1 will rewind after 24 shots if it things you have a 24 exposure roll, and it tells from the second row of contacts. 90% of cameras only have the first row and just look for the speed.

None of my cameras have the second row of sensors. Even the F6 I just got.
Otherwise use a larger piece of aluminum tape and some stick-on dots from the office store.

That is what I like about this forum. Thanks for pointing that out, otherwise I was scratching my head which cameras used the second row of DX codes. In this picture I see two sensors on the second row of an EOS1. I guess logically you can de-code up to 36 exposures without the third sensor. If I'm reading the chart correctly, default should be 36 if no foil or exposed metal contacts those two sensors.
