I broke my back, schlepping this thing up two flights of narrow stairs on my own.. I got my fingers caught twice.. I nearly dropped the condensor..

but!

it's there, my wonderful, mammoth sized Omega d5v XL!

I bought it for only a hundred euros, with two good lensen, 80 and 50, loads and loads of acc., a nice digital timer, loads of negative carriers, up to 13x18, handmade filterset so put in the condensorhouse, it even comes with the cool three lens turret and lensboards a plenty..

I am a happy man! very happy indeed, now I need to get it levelled, and hope it doesn't need to much allignment (any tips?)

everyone's welcome to come look at it.. and touch it.. gently..

any user tips are welcome of course..

cheers,
Onno

Congrats. Fine machine.
Most enjoyment will come if you take the time to do a proper alignment. More than likely it is all out if it has been moved. Alignment is easy on this model for lens, neg, and base parallelism.
Put it on a sturdy table that you will probably have to make yourself because it needs to have strong legs and be short so you don`t hit the ceiling. I have a small table that stradles the base and hold the easel up 12 inches so I can stand. It needs to be made with precision. Use adjustable feet if you must.

Really enjoy mine. Got it used and have never regretted it for one moment. Alignment is good advice. I just used a "torpedo" level (small hardware store variety) to align the base with the head. Remember, if the bed isn't perfectly level, no problem. Just make sure you have the head is parallel to the base. Mine rests on a small bed in the apartment and can move a bit, and is the Dichroic head, so your condenser head will be plenty sharp for printing. Use the best glass you can afford! Congrats, tim

Congratulations Onno, I somewhat share your excitement as I just got an D5 (Prolab II). I am just waiting for a chance to set it all up.

Good luck with your new toy!

Certainly one of the best enlargers out there. I have two myself. The XL model with the color head is used by my wife and the standard D5 I have set up at my work with an Ilford 400 MG head. Yeah, I got the skin between my left thumb and index finger caught in the rack and pinion gears when I was moving it. I almost cried like a baby. I said almost!
