Could anyone tell me what wattage bulb should go in the safelight above, whcih I have acquired without a bulb. All I know is that it is set up for standardard New Zealand power (240volts) and has a socket for a small Edison screw bulb. The saelight has a revolving system whcih inserts various colors between the light and the plastic translucent front. It is, of course, made in Italy. Many thanks.

I should also state that using 25 watt bulbs at the distance they are from sensitive materials Ive never encountered a fogging problem.

If the Safil is NOT the same as the Tricolor lamp then ignore the rest but if it is the same OR more importantly has the same construction with the different colour filters the same distance from the bulb i.e. close, then be very careful about exceeding the wattage.

I did, using a 25 W bulb instead of, I think, 15W and it ruined its protection without there being any obvious damage. It must have damaged the filter. The safelight test gave me barely a minute of safety. Not enough.

At the risk of being a dismal Jimmy, I found the Durst recommended rating for the bulb to give out a very poor light for B&W if used at the safe wattage, hence the temptation to increase to 25W and a practically non existent light for colour.

Hardly helpful, I know given you now have the Durst lamp but I have since moved to the Ilford 902 at 15W and found the light intensity to be much better.

I also own a Durst Safil safelight. According to the user guide, the recommended bulb is a miniature Edison Screw clear 40W bulb, except in Switzerland where for some reason they specify a 25W.

"except in Switzerland where for some reason they specify a 25W"

That is really weird.

Likely explanation:
Switzerland has their own electrotechnical certification authority (as some other european countries).
You may find the S+ logo at some plugs.
It may be that for overheating issues in luminaires of that size only 25W lamps at maximum were allowed, whereas authorities from other countries were more tolerant.
