DURST PICTOCHROM AND COLOUR PRINTING

Hi everyone,

I just got a Pictochrom AF with which I intended to make my own colour prints.
I thought the probe would have given me the proper filter pack and exposure time for each negative to use, but it seems like it is not so.-
As I put the probe under the lens I get a relatively accurate exposure time, but the CCs of the YM filters remain unchanged.

Is this how the enlarger is supposed to work? Do I need a separate analyser to get the proper filter pack for my negatives? Or is my enlarger that does not work?

Any advice is very, very much appreciated

Hi Paolo !
As far as I know, the Pictochrom is not the easiest enlarger to use.
My advice is to get the manual from Durst (http://www.durst.it) and ask them for it (I think they charge some money now)
Otherwise, try to ask some people in the pro labs of your town, maybe one of them had used a pictochrom and can remember how to use it.

I only work black and white, and I found this enlarger nice for my work.

Is any specific problem in printing 6x6cm or 135mm negs up to x10-12 enlagment? May be problem vith tonal reproduction, light sensor quality, etc?

I planning use it only for B&W.

If it is possible, help me: send to me copy (may be PDF) of English section of this Pictochrom Elite Plus.

The probe is normally intended for the Pictograph or Multigraph to determine contrast and exposure for b/w printing. The probe is not designed to measure colours. You need an extra colour analyser for that.

As the probe of the pictochrom elite plus measures only density, is there a difference between the probe for pictochrome and multigraph or can I use the multigraph probe for the pictochrom?

And sorry for my bad english !
No, the probes are the same, but doesn't work in the same way.
The Multigraph Probe measures in continuous, and the Pictochrom Probe measures point by point.
But the probes are the same EXCEPT the values of two components : R2 and C1 are differents.
For the Multigraph, R2=220Mo and C1=100pF.
For the Pictochrom, R2=100Mo and C1=200pF.

I think that you can use the Picto probe for both of them, but you have to change these components, and maybe adjust the probe offset on the PCB ...

I bought a Durst pictochrom plus elite autofocus with keypad and everything you need but do not have the manual to understand the various buttons and how to make it work.
