Hello guys, It's time for me to make a big step forward and I decided to buy my first enlarger.
I found a Durst M670 BW in mint condition with a Rodagon 50 f/2.8 for €100 (~$110).
I've read that it require a condenser to print 6x6 negatives, the siriocon 80, masks and at least a 80mm lens.
How do I know if the condenser is included?
What do you think about this enlarger?
Thanks in advance guys.

I have not used the 670, but have had a couple of 600s and 601s, you do need a 6X6, or with 670 a 6X7 condenser, mask, and 80mm or 90 lens. The 670 is a 6X7 enlarger rather than a 6X6 so you need a set up for 6X7. You ought to find 2 condensers in the box, the smaller condenser for 50mm and larger condenser for 6X7, make sure that they are unscratched. Here in the US Durst parts are somewhat hard to find, perhaps in Italy you will have luck finding parts you might need need.

If you don`t need 6x7, you should prefer M600, M601 or M605 for quality reasons.

Durst accessories are hard to find, even in Europe. I bought a second M601 because that was cheaper than buying some accessories one by one. I could send you the M670 manual in french language.

The condenser is housed in a plastic box that is inserted above the negative holder. If there isn't a condenser there will be a big gap just below the filter holder (which is in the main M670BW head).

You should receive two condensers. The smaller one (Siriocon 50) is only suitable for 35mm; the larger (Siriocon 80) one can do 35 and 120 but will result in longer exposure times for 35mm than the smaller condenser. The smaller condenser is unsuitable for 120.

The M670 is a nice enlarger. I have a 670 and M601. The 670 is slightly more plasticcy in places, but they both have similar column mechanisms. You need to make sure the column holds properly and that there are no missing teeth in the rack (which is on the column) and that the pinion gears are in good condition. They are plastic so can be damaged if misused. The head is held in place with friction pads and needs occasional adjusting to ensure it's solid and smooth.

I don't really use my 601 but the 670 is my main enlarger. The recommended 150W bulbs are starting to get tricky to find though.

For the price, I'd expect to receive the enlarger with both condensers , negative carrier (UNINEG) with masks (SIXMA/SIVOPAR pair 35/66/67 etc.) for at least one format of 6x6 and 35mm and preferably the ANR glass (SIVOLGA AN). For 6x6 for example I use one SIXMA 66 mask and the SIVOLGA AN glass on top in the UNINEG negative carrier. For 35mm I tend to use the Sivoma 35 and Sixma 35 mask pair.

You also need the correct lens mounts SIRIOPLA 39 for 35mm and up to 6x6 or if you want to enlarge 6x7 with a 100/105mm lens you'll need a VEGATUB 39.

The M670 is modular and you can also swap out the BW head for a colour head which uses diffusers rather than condensers (Again there are two sizes and you should ensure you get both unless you only use one format).

Thank you all, guys, your answers have all been really helpful. The kit includes the siriocon 50 condenser, a 135 mask, filters holder and as I said a Rodagon 50. It's in perfect shape, no teeth missing and the condenser is scratchless. It's ready to print 35mm, in the future I'll upgrade it or maybe I'll sell that for a better one. Just one question, what's the purpose of that grid on the enlarger's head?
Thanks again guys!

everything Durst made for the darkroom is f top-quality and the price is right too;go for it! The condensers sit above the negative stage and look like large simple glass lenses. You need a different set for each negative format to optimise the light distribution and output.
