Durst M605 broken glass, where did it come from?

Hi!

I've just found this forum, what an amazing resource!

So go easy on me, I'm pretty new to film photography, I've been developing my own film for the last few years and now I'm printing. Mainly on a Meopta opemus 6a with colour 3 head but I've been given a Durst M605 with colour head but I've come across some broken glass. The bulb was broke which explains some glass but I think I might also be missing something else that sits in front of the bulb, any ideas Durst owners? I've attached a photo as a reference. There was a shard of glass wedged in front of the bulb and not sure where it came from.

possibly the UV filter if it has come from a holder which takes a square piece of UV filter glass which is normally in front of bulb.

Those halogen bulbs give out a fair amount of UV and certainly I have durst enalarger which has a UV filter in it.

You would need to treat the head pretty badly to break it though.

I don't know how it was treated before I got it but hopefully it was looked after. As you can see there is still some purple glass but nothing directly in front of the lamp.

the glass in mine is clear glass. If its purple/magenta its going to filter everything except purple/magenta which is going to affect contrast significantly making it much harder contrast.
But I don't have an M605 so I can't be sure what colour the original glass in there was.

manual says there is a UV and an IR filter built into the colour mixing head.

Ah that makes sense, I guess I'm missing one. Getting parts for these enlargers I imagine is next to impossible. I only print B&W, any idea if missing glass would effect this?

well yes, missing UV and or IR filter will affect the contrast of your print. How much I don't know. However, adjust contrast filtration and print time which you do as a matter of course anyway will likely mean you won't notice. The affect is probably worse with colour paper.
You can contact Terry at Northern Photo who may be able to supply any missing filters/glass and certainly give best advice on your particular model.

Looks intact to me. Just an inconsequential chip in the infrared/heat absorbing glass.

Interesting. I think the chip might just be how it looks in the photo, think that glass is in tact. I will clean off all the white stuff and check again.
