Durst laborator 1000 question

Hello,

I have problems getting a even lighting area with a Durst laborator 1000.
With bigger enlargments I get light fall off at the working side of the enlarger,
I think I do everything right with the opal lamp and the condensers,
But I was wondering if I miss something here in the mirror condenser housing (see picture)
What should be in these slots.

Those slots are to take an accessory heat-filter.

Assuming you have the correct condenser set and lens for your intended negative, it looks as if the lamp may not be centered.
You probably saw that section 6.1.0 Centering the lamp, in the English version of the manual, has a typo. It omits reference to #21 which is the lamp locking ring. That needs to be loosened to center the lamp.

Given that image is tilted, the camera is off center and not pointing straight at the bulb, I find it miraculous that you can say bulb is not centered. I don't think anyone could tell from that photo.

I thing those 45 degrees slots are for inserting mirror when enlarger is used as repro camera?

The Laborator 1000 has a closed casing, thus no screen and thus no need for a mirror in that position.

OK, but they could use that part from previous model?
Also, you do not need whole upper housing and screen (as on later models) for repro mode. Mirror in right position and proper cassette will do the job

A couple of things:

The heat-filter is positioned between lamp house and condensor house. See attached pictures.

The mirror is always there, positioned in the "ceiling" of the condenser head. Be careful when you pick that up: the mirror tends to slide out . . .

Do you have a filter tray there? It looks different from mine, but I should look again at mine. Is yours the Taufil ?

Anyway, I may be wrong because the L1000 is still new to me, but your bulb looks smaller than the bulbs Durst had made. Is that a Phillips bulb? If you have 4X5 negatives in there I think you need the largest possible bulb. If your bulb is smaller it will be more difficult to avoid fall off. The bulbs Durst had made have a different shape than yours, more like a pear. They were made by Thorn - 200, 300 and 500 watt . . . It is specified in the manual, the size of the bulbs. I first had a too small bulb in there and I had the same problem. After installing the large bulb, all was ok.

How large are you enlarging?

ps the bulb in the pictures is the wrong one, too small.

Look again, the bulb is too high. He needs to unlock ring #21 and re-postion.

First time I see a picture of a heatfilter, always wondered where that would go.
On mine you see indeed the taufil filter drawer.

I made 7x enlargements of 6x6 negatives. with a 75 mm lens and otocon 180-2 and 130 condensers

The lamp is 90mm and I was told it would do the job, but yesterday I tried the original smaller lamp and got even fall off on all sides. So the lamp is the problem. Probably the filament sits to low in the bulb and it is not opal enough.

Original Lamps are hard to get and the enlarger will also be used it for 4x5. So I may have to start with led-light and a diffuser, as I have seen in a laborator 138.

This is the lamp setup on my condenser enlarger. It may give you ideas. It uses quartz-halogen-reflector bulbs that project onto an opal disk.

There is a thread on using a G-40 bulb for the L-138 and using that info, I determined that a usable replacement for the L-1000 is a G-30 bulb.

Hello, I have a durst pro 4x5 enlarger. It's some what obscure and was only made for a year or two before a transition to the laborators. I had a similar problem with even fewer manuals and documentation to go by. I was getting uneven light from my head, not a lot but noticeable, I tried so many things, rearranging condensers, different condenser sizes, different lenses, different bulbs, different wattages etc etc, but the light was uneven with fall off on two corners. I eventually started poking around more and on the back of the head, it's a bit hidden, but you can actually adjust the lamp socket! You can loosen it to raise and lower the entire lamp socket base to change the distance vertically and horizontally from the condenser stage. I adjusted mine both a bit higher up and pulled the light bulb more toward the rear to get even lighting on my enlarger. Hopefully this design is the same as in your machine. Good luck.

Yesterday I got lucky and found an original lamp they are huge, the lighting area is perfect now.

I have not set up the enlarger except for testing, but not with a 4x5 negative. The enlarger is down, waiting for me to complete construction of the darkroom.
I think I selected the G-30 bulb because the G-30 at 3-3/4" is about the same size as the original Durst bulb. And it better work, I bought 10 of those G-30 bulbs.

I have this note in my enlarger notes.
Lens 135-150mm > bulb 3.5in / 90mm diameter
