Is there a size difference in the format masks that fit in Durst Femoneg and Femoneg AM negative carriers? I’m asking this because I’m considering getting Alistair Inglis’ pinned negative carrier inserts which are set to fit in Femoneg AM carriers. I would like to know if they will fit in my Femoneg negative carrier, too.

thanks

I believe the masks have a different corner dimension. The angled corner length is shorter on the AM then the standard. Or vice versa. Other than that they are the same width and length overall.

Femoneg AM vs European - dimensions?

I bought the Ingliss unsharp mask system for my L1200. It doesn't fit my Femoneg holder. Its dimension along the lower side between the diagonal corner cutouts is 10 cm, while on my Femoneg that dimension would be 8 cm.

Can anyone measure a Femoneg AM vs a Femoneg European along that dimension and tell me which is which?

Femoneg dimensions

The Femoneg carrier was designed for 9x12cm, it cuts off a little of the corners of 4x5" negatives. The cutout on the Femoneg is 12 x 12cm with angled corners about 1.3cm from the edges. The distance between the corner cutouts at the edges is 9.5cm. I don't have a Femoneg AM (for American), they are awfully hard to find. Hopes this helps!

The Femoneg AM cutout is 13.0cm square, the angled corners intrude 1.3cm from the edges, leaving 10.4cm of straight edge between the corners. For reference, every Femoneg AM carrier that I have seen has light grey plastic handles for the sliding masks, and the regular Femoneg has black plastic handles.

re Femoneg AM dimensions

Thanks for the replies. That helps me a lot. I posted a picture of what I have at www.rickthurmond.com/femomask.jpg. On the left is the Inglis masking insert and on the right is a mask that fits my existing Femoneg, which I take to be the European version. If I understand it right, I need to get a Femoneg AM to fit the Inglis insert. The usual sources seem to have dried up. Does anyone know of someone still selling this part?

I see the Femoneg AM come up on Ebay every few weeks. Nice ones sell for $200-250.

For common knowledge, here is a standard Femoneg aside the AM version (with a standard Femomask on top, for comparaison), allowing for full 4x5 film printing...

So the one with pink knobs is standard and grey knobs is the AM version? In the picture I see that both can accommodate the 4x5 mask. Will the 4x5 femoglass fit the standard carrier or only on AM version?

The bigger AM femogla and AM femomasks of the femoneg AM negative carrier are not compatible with the smaller more common femoneg negative carrier.

And while the smaller non-AM glass and masks may fit into the aperture of the femoneg AM, they are not truly compatible.

In short, the Durst femo and femo AM are not compatible or designed to be compatible.

Yes, left is standard and right is AM. The standard Femomask and Femogla fit in the AM carrier but they don't fill the corner (precisely what allows to print the entire 4x5)...

I have the standard femoneg with the pink knobs above. What mask and glass should I use for 4x5 film? Do femomask and femoglass fit the standard non-AM carrier?

Yes, Femomask and Femogla.
