Recently, I tried printing a photo for the first time on larger paper than usual (24x30 cm) using my Durst 609 enlarger. Unfortunately, I noticed that the focus is not consistent across the entire negative. Slightly lifting the negative carrier on one side shifts the focus plane across the image, so I suspect alignment is the issue.
Does anyone know how to align this specific enlarger? I couldn’t find a service manual online (just old links that no longer exist).

Thanks!

I'd start by verifying that the enlarger column is mounted properly onto the base board. It's usual to see enlargers like these refitter to a new baseboard somewhere along the line. A slight misalignment in this would cause the problem you noticed. Also verify that the negative carrier sits properly in the enlarger head; old bits of tape etc. can easily create trouble here. Same with the lens board; if this isn't fitted correctly, the projected image won't be parallel to the negative (or the baseboard).

In other words, start with thoroughly inspecting and cleaning up the enlarger before further troubleshooting.

A picture of the lens stage would be helpful.

Just about any enlarger can be aligned with shims, washers etc, even if there was no purposeful design intent for adjustment.

For example, layers of tape on the low end of the negative carrier can be a practical solution.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

Regarding the lens stage, unfortunately, I have a recessed lens board, so I’m not sure how to provide a clear photo of that area.
For example, layers of tape on the low end of the negative carrier can be a practical solution.
I’ll follow your advice and try aligning everything by adding tape and maybe also washers under the negative carrier, as it seems like a practical solution for the issue.

Also verify that the negative carrier sits properly in the enlarger head; old bits of tape etc. can easily create trouble here.
I’ll also check the alignment of the column with the baseboard and thoroughly clean all the components as suggested.

Thanks again for your help! I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
