Hi everyone, like me a lot of you have been looking for substitute bulb that will give full even coverage.

Today I found it !!!! A big led bulb from Philips that just fits see pics

First pis shows size compared to the easy to get Photo bulb 150w

Next pic shows led bulb in my enlarger

Where to buy......Here in Sunny Australia the hardware Chain BUNNINGS has them for less than $30.00 AUD !!!!

I have not printed a 5x7 neg but there is tiny bit fall off on each corner (about 5mm) of my glass carrier, it should not pose any problems

Go Buy one and let me know what you think

what are the pitfalls when using (cold) LED bulbs instead of tungsten, e.g. when printing with MG filters?

So far I have had great results with this Bulb, the exposure times are slightly longer as this bulb puts out approx 200 watts apposed to
250 Watts for the original bulb, the contrast looks about the same using Ilford MG filters

The paper I am using is just standard Multigrade paper.

there is a tiny amount of fall off in each corner of a 5x7 neg but it is all most undetectable in the real world

Watts measure power in not light out (that's usually expressed as lumens for lamps) I hope your LED draws a lot less that 200 watts. Perhaps the packaging suggest the output is equivalent to a 200 watt lamp? The other issue with LED is only some work in fully enclosed spaces like lamphouses. I hope this works, that original lamp is hard to find.

The lamp puts out 3000 lumen which is about the same as as a 200watt Filament globe, this LED bulb draws only 27 Watts of power. The lamp house on a 138s was designed to work with a 300 Watt filament Bulb with out a fan, so no problem here:- The other cool thing about this bulb is it works on any voltage from 90 - 240volts. So far it looks to be the best simple cost effective solution to the bulb problem with out doing drastic mods to the enlarger. As this is a PHILIPS .product it should be available world wide.
