I am looking for advice - a friend has a Durst 1200 with condensor head that was his backup enlarger. He now wants to sell it and make some space.

Question: what is the best way to get fair value for this?

Options that I see are:

1) Classifieds here

2) Craigslist

3) Ebay, specifying local pickup only

4) Ebay, sell in pieces as "parts" - therefore it becomes shippable (mostly)

Any other suggestions? I don't think he is looking for unreasonable money, but I also don't think he wants to give it away.

Selling in Canada only, or looking to sell in US? Near any large cities for local pick up? Can you get it to a US shipping location? Parting out works well for carriers and lens boards. Search Ebay for closed auctions for some idea of current market value.

Thanks for the questions/comments.

It's in Toronto, so a fairly large market.

I suspect that setting up for shipping would be time consuming and expensive.

I have been watching 1200s go on eBay and Craigslist, and the prices asked are all over the map.

I thought maybe the head by itself could be sold for more than the enlarger, because it could potentially be shipped anywhere, much more easily than the whole enlarger.

That being said, I'd hate to see someone break up a perfectly fine enlarger.......
