Dual purpose enlarger and picture lens.

I'm thinking about buying either a 150 or 240 G Claron lens to be used with a Graflarger, as well as a picture taking lens for my 4x5. My bellows is 300mm +/- and I'd like to enlarge to 16x20 minimum. My longest lens is a 203 right now and I could use a much longer lens, but figure maybe 240 would be max. I would like to figure a little table top into the mix, but question that with such a short bellows. Any idea on 1. Another lens suggestion and 2. What kind of shooting distances would I'd be looking at for some table stuff if I racked out all the way with a 240?

If you only have 300mm of bellows, is it safe to assume this is a Speed or Crown Graphic? A 240, unless it's a telephoto design, isn't going to focus very close with only 60mm of extension past infinity (assuming the flange FL is close to the actual FL of the lens). Just doing the math in my head (not a good thing for me to do), you would get about 7.25 feet - give or take. Somebody PLEASE correct my math if I screwed that up - it's been a long day...

A telephoto design would let you get a higher reproduction ratio (you could get more extension), but tele's usually have less image circle (= less movements) than standard lens designs. I would stay with the 203 you have and maybe get a 150.

From memory, with my Tachihara and 240mm lens, I think I've taken at about 4-5 ft. or so.

My Toyo 45A (30,5 cm of bellows) focuses up to 120 cm with a 240 mm apo-ronar. At its shortest focussing distance it covers an area of about 25 x 32 cm. I also have a 360 mm tele-xenar, that focuses up to 210 cm. At this distance it covers an area a little over 28 x 35 cm.
My estimation is that the 240 mm is to long to use as an enlarger lens if you have a max. bellows extention of about 300 mm, at least if you want to print smaller than 24 x 30 cm. As for a taking lens, next to a 203 mm, i would look for a telephoto design. My 360 tele-xenar has a Fl focus length of about 210 mm and suits me very well in addtion to my 240 mm.

One of the 120mm macro lenses should work quite nicely as a dual purpose lens.

The only problem with using G-Clarons on enlargers that I see is that f/9 is a bit dim for projecting an image on the easel.

What's your perspective on the qualities of this lens. Is it worth the money their going for?
