Hi, Do you know of any books or websites that discuss the emulsion making for Dry Plate Ambrotypes from scratch (not collodion, but gelatin)? I am currently practicing the wet plate collodion process, but I also want to try Dry Plate Ambrotypes with brighter highlights. The product called J Lane Dry Plate Ambrotype is no longer available (at the moment), so I would like to make it myself.

If you know anyone who has that information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Did you know we have a forum dedicated to emulsion making? It's here: https://www.photrio.com/forum/forums/silver-gelatin-based-emulsion-making-coating.93/
I'd suggest browsing through the various threads there; there's some info on plates as well. To my understanding, any silver gelatin emulsion without a top coat and a thin silver image (underdeveloped, overexposed) will look like a positive. I've run into it many times with e.g. x-ray film.

I'll move your thread to the Emulsion forum in a minute as well.

Thanks for the info. Sorry for posting on the wrong forum...!

You might consider reaching out to @dwross - Denise Ross in real life.
I don't know if she has experimented with that type of emulsion, but she might have useful links.
