Yep. Anything larger than my TLR is not happening.

Now I am concentrating on resurrecting my 35 mm SLR's and the 'ol 23C II. Everything has been stored since about 1990. I even dusted off the Mamiya C33 TLR.

Someone school me on current B&W thinking. Do most of you develop then scan? Or print a few in your dark room?

How about for posting your work here. Develop & scan?

hahahaha thats what you say now... but let me tell ya... i got a 9x12 avus and a maximar... im so freakin hooked!

they are lighter than my mf cameras and take up so much less space in my backpack.

i just need more film holders for both. i did make my own roll film backs but its no where near what 9x12 renders.

anyone have spare holders they want to sell?

APUG is a scanning free zone.
No - APUG tries to be "a scanning discussion free zone".
It is a one word distinction, but nonetheless it is an important distinction.

As all may observe, I am rather ignorant as to the ethics and politics of APUG.

I am learning though.

But one question lingers in my mind: How do you folks digitally post your analog photos to this digital forum?????

As I mentioned in an earlier post, if the answer is classified and not for public view, then a simple answer may be sent to me via a PM.

Or maybe I have not earned enough points yet to be trusted with an answer.

Oh yeah, I read Matt's statement again: "a scanning discussion free zone".

So I will never know, eh?

Looks like I will be satisfied with making prints on the 'ol Beseler and hanging them up on the barn walls.

Keep the discussion rolling guys, it is good entertainment

Your avatar is scanned. You have just won the coveted Hypocrite of the day award.

You are wrong. It was never scanned. It is a digital photograph because I could never get another sunny winter day in Niagara Falls.

A print or negative may be scanned for the purpose of discussion but an ensuing discussion about scanning problems and scanning is off limits.

How do you stand as far as familiarity with digitizing images in general?
I ask because if you are generally familiar with the options, and how to do things, then it is entirely appropriate to ask about APUG and how to get what you have on to the site, in the places where it is appropriate. We can tell you about what is welcome in the subscriber access galleries, the expectations about what should and shouldn't be uploaded to threads, and about some of the technical details (e.g. permitted sizes) of the uploaders embedded in the site.
People can give you hints as well about what tends to make things look good when uploaded to APUG.
If you need help with scanning or digitizing things in general, than that is what is outside the APUG discussion rules. No one would object though if you asked if people could refer you to a good scanning resource. Even the most rabid analogue APUG purist (and I assure you that I'm not that) wouldn't get upset about that (I think).

Well finally things are sorted out for me! Thanks Matt.

I do not intend to post photos here, I was just curious as to the process.

I am not a photographer as most are here on APUG, I just enjoy using the film cameras. Slows things down for me and forces me to think about the capture instead of firing off a dozen digital shots.

I took a look at DPUG. Tons of info there, maybe one day I will have the patience to wade through the threads.

I will be cautious if posting anything else, just look at how much trouble I stirred up with starting this thread!!!!!!

Thanks again gents, APUG is a great resource.

Make contact prints, problem solved.
+1

OP ...
you don't need to make electronic likenesses of your photographs, just make prints
and join the post card or print exchange groups. the gallery and uplooods as nice as they are
give a glimpse at what people do, people's main emphasis ( at least some peoples emphasis )
is on tangible physical objects not the other stuff.

good luck !

It is for a day. Who cares? Not me. If it were a negative it would have had to be scanned anyway. Besides it is not a photograph it is an avatar. Some on APUG have avatars they drew with Fauxto$hop.

Everytime someone issues a caution regarding talking about scanning, a scene from the movie Casablanca runs through my mind:

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [soft voice] Oh, thank you very much.
[aloud]
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once!
