Drilling lensboards for an Apo Lanthar 47 150?

Bonjour,
What is the copal size of the shutter fitting an Apo Lanthar 47 150?
I am waiting for this lens and I have no idea which lensboard to use.

The 150 mm f4.5 Apo-Lanthar should be in a size 1 shutter. (I've never heard of a f4.7 version.) Unless it has been remounted, the shutter will be of the Compur brand. Copal 1 and Compur 1 shutters need the same size mounting holes, so a lensboard described as suitable for a Copal 1 shutter will also work for your lens.

You're right, apologies, it is a f4.7.
And it is in a Compur shutter.
It is here with me now. It is old but the lens is clear...
I hope it worth the money...

Is it 4.7 or 4.5?

Mine is a 4.5, in a Compur #1 shutter. But there is a slight possibility that there might be a model in a different (smaller) shutter, perhaps a 01? Then that could reduce the maximum aperture to f:4.7...

I sure hope you know that it was for 6X9 and not 4X5. It is often "presented" as a conventional coverage of 4X5 since it is a 150, but the official literature with its high standards pegs it at 6X9.

It almost covers 5x7". The 6x9 cameras have a 105mm.

Since you now have the shutter, you can check the shutter size. Unscrew the rear lens cell and then unscrew the retaining ring. You will see a projecting shoulder on the retaining ring -- measure the outside diameter of this shoulder. For a size 1 shutter, it will be just over 41 mm diameter, to fit into a 42 mm diameter lensboard hole.

What official literature specs the 150 Apo-Lanthar as a 6x9 lens?

I have two original product brochures, and both list the format as 9x12 cm (one also gives the inch format 4x5).

The 10.5 cm focal length is for 6.5 x 9 cm.

The Voigtlander brochure "Apo-Lanthar" appears to have a date code of 1958. The Zeiss Ikon / Voigtlander brochure "Professional Lenses" appears to have a date code of 1967.

The first brochure is unique for acknowledging the thorium content: "These glasses contain the rare elements lanthanum and thorium, important in the atomic energy industry, and from them the name APO-LANTHAR is derived." Most manufacturers using lanthanum and thorium preferred to mention ony the former -- see (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I've used my 150mm f:4.5 on 5x7" film before I got the 165mm Angulon, and still prefer it - if closer than a few meters it will cover. At or near infinity the definition goes to sh*t in the corners. But until the limit of coverage it is very sharp and very nice!
