I suspect that Mr Lee's death may not mean as much in the U.S. but here in the U.K. starved as we were of colour films even in the late 1950s he treated us to great horror films in the kind of full colour that made Velvia and Ektar look anaemic :D

Part of the problem has been that a lot of the Hammer films shown on TV over the years have been nth-generation copies, with excessive contrast and gaudy colors. It's been good to see, more recently, properly restored versions on TV and and DVD, with exceptional details and good colour as they were originally.

Most, if not all, were filmed in Eastmancolor, which was surprisingly good in the late 50's and 60's.
