I just bought a used Ilford Safelight with a 5X7 inch red (912 I think) filter in it.

I would rather it had a fresh filter for Multigrade. A 5X7 Kodak OC Filter is close to 100 dollars.

I don't see Ilford filters advertised, and I understand they were made by an Outside supplier.

Are there any Suggestions. I am in Canada if that makes a difference.

The red filter is IMO, is safer than the OC. It is harder to see by, but less chance of fogging. You will need dark red with some eastern european papers and especially any ortho film products you decide to use.

+1:smile:I'm so worried about fogging that I even added a sheet of writing paper to dim the safelight even further. The eyes adapt to a low lighting environment rather quickly and print quality benefits.

Actually the OC/902 filters are safer with Multigrade type papers.

If you're worried about brightness add a dimmer switch.

Give Burlington Camera a call. They have a good selection of safelight glass.

Still looking for a resonable NEW 5X7 OC filter, after about a year of B&H telling me the Doran 5x7" Safelight Filter (OC-Amber)
(B&H # DOFSL57OC) was on back order, I got an e-mail this week that it is in fact discontinued. They do show another 5X7 OC filter which is alos on backorder, and it seems I can no longer as for a status update . The Kodak OC is still available at about 95 USD! which is quite a bit more than I would be willing to spend, particularly when the CDN$ is down so much.

Apparently their is a possible market Niche.
