@BAC1967 So you were saying that the distance between the bottom(flat side) of the magnifier and the paper was 4cm then? https://imgur.com/a/udQJOO6
Basically, my goal is https://imgur.com/a/bgKv17G where the image would be in focus in this scenario. With the thickness of the lens is less than the minimum phone distance of the phone. (6cm)
I am unclear what type of lens I need to accomplish this..
@BAC1967 So do I have it correct that there is then 2cm between the bottom of the condenser and the newsprint?
And if the condenser had an extra 2cm of glass you could do this https://imgur.com/a/bgKv17G to have the image in focus
Sorry to ask so many questions,
and the diameter of the condenser is?

That’s about right if my measurements are accurate. Unless you get the exact same condenser lens you will probably get different results. The condenser lens is 5 centimeters in diameter.
@AgX I'm not sure I understand the formula..I don't know alot about optics to be honest.
I'm wondering if there is a "range" of dome magnifiers I can look for/buy online to work in this exact situation: https://imgur.com/a/bgKv17G
Where the black is the thing I want in focus.
Ideally I was looking for something between 20-30mm in diameter, and I know most of the mobile phones seem to have a minimum focus distance of around 6 to 8cm.
Is there a way to go from there? Most of the dome magnifiers online mention their magnification and diameter, their thickness too, but not always their diopter.
@BAC1967 It seems that it needs to have an elongated thickness to achieve the phone/magnifier/object sandwich I want, im just not sure if that means regardless of diameter it would always need an additional thickness added on, or if I can find a dome magnifier or condenser in the wild that would actually work without this modification. Appreciate the help, and the pics!
If I have a physical size restriction of 1"x 1"x 1" (a cube) roughly, as in the dome magnifier can not be larger than this, is it possible to accomplish what I need?
Or does the dome magnifier required to be 7cm/2.5" in thickness? (my phones minimum focus distance)
