Do you shoot RAW?

Just curious to hear how folks are working with their digital cameras.

If you are shooting RAW, what RAW processing software do you use?

No point in buying a Ferrari and driving the speed limit. I always shoot raw, ALWAYS.

Lightroom and, less frequently, PS CS3/ACR.

I tend to use nikon's basic progam, altho, i have been fooling around with a program for nikon's called toneup . a whooping 20 dollars and is based on the math used for Capture

With my Fuji i generally use Photoshop as the software from Fuji is really poor )IMHO.

With my beginning students i avoid the discussion about RAW as most of them just want to take better family pics. With the Intermediate classes we go into greater detail about RAW; both pros and cons and then they can decided for themselves.

For some folks the downside is the sizes of the files, storage and PP; however, for me, it is the only way i want to work .

Shooting JPEG is kind of: shooting film, have it processed in the lab, getting the CD with the scans but leaving the film there so they will throw it to the trashcan... A little bir harsh but this is what I exactly feel about it.

I only shoot RAW.
I use the Canon DPP software to view and select shots and then either convert them to TIFFs with it, or use Photoshop to process them.

I shoot raw for everything, but "grip&grin" type of snapshots. Process in Lightroom.

I shoot raw if only so I'll have an untouched original. Lightroom v2 is said to have a completely nondistructive workflow, but I've not used it beyond a month w/ the beta.

When I *did* have a dslr, I shot raw and processed in Capture one LE then catalogued in iView Mediapro. I much prefer Capture One to Lightroom or ACR

Why did you think Capture 1 was better? And Which version of ACR are you comparing it to?

I've done a direct comparison of Capture One and ACR 4.6 with Leica M8 files and the C1 results are a lot better - smoother, better NR in C1 and less destructive sharpening, to my eye. I haven't bothered doing a comparison with Canon files, as I am generally pretty happy with ACR for them.

Generally, i use jpe format b/c it's so much faster for me and the results are acceptable for my needs...

I don't enjoy the post-processing aspect of RAW - chiefly b/c i don't how to use software very well and am not as interested to learn it as i should be. Unfortunately, the distaste for post-processing carries over to when i am scanning negatives, despite owning a reasonably nice dedicated neg scanner.

With my digital cams I always shoot RAW unless I'm taking pics of my wifes relatives.
