My Grandfather's RolleiCord. I keep promising myself I'll find someone to revive it.

My Minolta X700 died on me yesterday. I'm on holiday and am on my way to a repair shop to see if they can fix it.
If the shutter won't fire, film advance is stuck, and when you press the shutter button the LEDs in the viewfinder go out, it's likely the shutter capacitor that is behind the bottom cover of the body that has failed, it can be replaced and usually this gets it working, if not, it could be another capacitor that is at the top left hand side of the camera.
It's happened to me twice with mine, one time it was the bottom capacitor which was replaced, and another time it was a problem with the shutter mechanism itself.
I'd suggest you join the Minolta Collectors FB group, they're usually very helpful there with troubleshooting.

Actually I could, at first, advance the film but it wouldn't fire. Then the mirror stayed up and that was it.

They emailed me that it is the curtain and it will cost HKD400 (€45,$52) to disassemble, repair and lubricate the shutter. I'll pick it up when I return to Hong Kong for two more nights before flying home.

I really wonder if it will all work out. The repair price is close to buying another one. But who knows what's going on inside that one. At least the shower should be fine, now. The camera is supposed to be a Japan made model. So I was surprised that the caps might be failing. I guess they are fine after all. There is a three month warranty on the fix, BTW.

I will probably look into that Minolta group.

I have several nonworking 1950's rangefinders that were given to me and sit on the shelf looking pretty. 3 nonworking Minolta X700 will be sent in to produce 1 or 2 bodies that work.

My X-700 is also a Japan model, none of them are free from the capacitor problems, because the capacitors simply fail from age, it's worth repairing though rather than getting another body.

Out of 84 cameras, one of my Zeiss cameras has a sticky shutter; it's scheduled for a CLA. I haven't used it since buying it last year, so it's better that I discovered the issue now.

All others are working and (eventually) get used for at least a week.

I have an off-brand TLR with a nonfunctioning shutter that is used for decoration.
I have a Minolta XG7 that doesn't work - I am debating whether or not it makes sense to get it fixed.
I also have a FED3 which doesn't focus properly. I removed the lens mount and found that no shims were present - I suspect someone had overhauled the camera and lost the shims - I doubt I have the only FED that doesn't need them. One of these days I will play around and try to fix this one.

I have a Konica FP bought new in 1963 with a Copal shutter which began acting up (in 1981!). I started to dig into it, but just went ahead and bought a Canon A-1. I still have the Konica, perhaps a serious CLA by someone who knows those cameras would put it back in service, but I don't shoot enough 35mm to warrant spending the money.

I also have a circa 1949? Flexaret III TLR I picked up at a flea market in the 1970s for $5. The shutter was stuck and I was intending to use the lens for something. But naturally I had to tinker with it. Well, got the shutter working and used it for a while, but last time I got it out, the slow speeds were hanging up, and the reflex mirror is pretty sad. It's now in the "maybe one of these days" pile, but I acquired a Yashica Mat 124G a few years back, so I've not had much incentive to work on the Flexaret.

And then there's a Canon A80 d!git@l P&S which has a sensor problem -- one of my newer cameras and the first to go pretty much full belly up! I tend to use digi stuff like film and didn't really rack up frames all that rapidly. Apparently the sensor bit became a known problem and they were repaired or replaced in a program that ended about two years before I had the problem -- oh well.

The 1/1000 on my Praktica L2 fires at 1/500 and I have an 2nd Spotmatic in need of a CLA. I aslo have a spare Super Tak 55mm f/1.8 with a destroyed filter ring, I keep it for the parts. That is all.

I've got too many non, and almost working ... but then again, I buy them that way
Sometimes I only realize back home that I got a lemon...
But I always take into account this chance when establishing the price I offer. Read: I pay only for a dead one anyway.

I have 2 Fujica Compact Deluxe cameras with non functioning meters and both have non functioning aperture mechanisms - that is they are stuck at F/1.8 and can't be stopped down. I tried putting a roll of Pan F+ through one camera and I was surprised at how good the 45 mm lens is when used wide open.

Two Konica FT-1s that bit the dust. Not worth fixing.

I've got my X700 back from the workshop and ran a roll through it right there in Mong Kok. I'm so happy. Had this happened back in Germany I don't think I would have dared sending it for repair.

The diagnosis is free here, and they send you the result with a quote by email or WhatsApp.

An Argus C-3. A Rolleiflex TLR. They now serve as decorative pieces.

I have a boxfull, literally. Some are for parts, but there's still one Canon IIb that needs the curtains replaced, also an F2a that needs an overhaul and a dent knocked out, a Spotmatic 1000 that needs minor work, some lenses that need cleaning and lubricating, a Canon Ftb that needs cla and a lens, a Kiev 4a needing ribbons, etc. etc.
I take some out and repair them usually in the winter, the rest of the year the box accumulates more.
Repairs so far: Pentax H1a, Rollei Automat complete overhaul, Canon IIb overhaul with new curtains, Spotmatic F battery compartment replaced, some lenses cleaned up and relubed, a free Gossen N100 with oxidised switch contacts, more I can't think of.

at the moment it is just the SOCKET for the flash cable for a polaroid portait camera
the camera looks like this
https://i.pinimg.com/564x/57/6a/f2/576af278a3cf793be0b35eb4463e7027--polaroid-camera.jpg
i've taken the camera apart, im thinking it is the series of connections when the guillotine shutter drops
and touches the metal shims inside ... the socket is some weird threaded thingamajig .. that has another weird connection on it ..
thinking of paying someone $$ so i can use a flash with it and make hybrid stereo trichrome portraits ..
ive used it successfully to make hybrd stereo trichrome portraits without a flash but i figure, why not ..
its a quick way to use up 4x5 panchromatic film
just haven't had the time to dig in ..

I have been reading the threads related to how many cameras you have etc ... and I thought I put one up re: if you have any equipment that does not work?

For me I have a lens that fell over 7 months ago Nikon 18-35mm AF-D but it still works with the aperture ring and manual focus but the focus ring is rough.

Two of my bussy pentax slr have shutter problems again.
1) Pentax Me Super
2) Pentax Super A

The shutter of the Me Super didn't work well as I bought it at ebay to around 7 bucks. But in my first hands it soon noticed to hurry up.
I COUN'D PAY 7 BUCKS FOR NOTHING

But since I did not use both for 2 years
both shutters are freezed.

NOW I HAVE TO INVEST DOUBLE THE PRICE TO GET IT AGAIN !!!!!

:laugh::D:laugh::laugh:

with regards

Sure. A couple of Nikons for starters. My F is dead in the water as is my F4. So much for the vaunted Nikon reliability.

To be fair though I suspect that they knew all along that I wasn't really a fanboy.

I should get them fixed but if I do I'll have to find some new bookends for my encyclopedia set.

A black Rolleiflex SL35 which was my grandfather's. It came with some nice lenses so I bought a silver body to test them, not sure what I should do with the broken black body.

Elinchrom Skyport triggers. A dissapointment from the start...and finally stopped working. Moved on to Pocketwizard.

My MjuII called it a day, sad as it was a birthday present from my wife twenty years ago. Others include a Nikon F55 that misses autofocus (full refund and I use it on manual), various 35mm point and shoots that have locked up from old age, two Nikon F601 SLRs whose door clasps fell off in the drawer (great design Nikon), some horrible early AF Minoltas (bought a bag of them for £15 so no complaints), a Lubitel with a jammed shutter (from the days they cost £15, not £300), I'm sure there are others.

All the cameras I use consistently work properly, with the exception of a few camera light meters I can't be bothered to repair. On the upside 2017 has turned up its fair share of bargains, including a lovely Kiev and 35mm J12 for £20, a spotless Olympus XA3 + flash and a box of other cameras for £15, and a number of Zenit M39 lenses the seller assured me fit a rangefinder and refunded. Swings and roundabouts.

I can think of a couple...

A Pentax MX that the shutter sticks open at slow speeds. It's otherwise in nice shape and I will get this fixed. It's perfectly usable at any speed OK for hand holding.

A Canon L1 (ltm rangefinder) the shutter pulls open when winding. The body is pretty chewed up, but it was fun to use while it worked. maybe...

There is a repair guy nearby - Dave Feeley at Key Camera Service in Longmont who I'm happy with, so It's mostly my inertia that has things sitting unfixed.

Just had one of Leica M3's (DS, ST, PV) CLA'd by Youxin.

I have a few other cameras in line for a CLA.
