I have been reading the threads related to how many cameras you have etc ... and I thought I put one up re: if you have any equipment that does not work?

For me I have a lens that fell over 7 months ago Nikon 18-35mm AF-D but it still works with the aperture ring and manual focus but the focus ring is rough.

My Minolta X700 died on me yesterday. I'm on holiday and am on my way to a repair shop to see if they can fix it.

Stuff is piling up. Typically time is lacking, sometime a certain tool to be selfmade, or just the guts to start a delicate operation.

Sometime knowledge too...

It's inevitable when you buy used stuff, or even new stuff that you use until the wear or accidents takes their toll.
With so many cameras available, it's too easy to set a non-working example to the side and switch over to something else, instead of repairing it.
You see that exact advice in a lot of threads in here quite a lot, because the cost of repair exceeds the money value of so many of our favorite devices.

Ovrr past several years had a few cameras and meters returned to proper working condition. Remaining is a Zeiss Ikon 706 with a meter that suddenly died. Camera meter repaired once before, a weak point of this model. However, it has a wonderful lens with standard 42mm screw mount, but like so many Zeiss products, not compatible with other 42mm mounts. Would really like to put this lens on my Nikon F...any suggestions?

y latest is a Contessa with the meter not working, not a problem as I prefer a hand held, some with sticky shutters that need a Cla to get the slow speeds working, again not a real problem as they are mostly used for landscapes, and one where the shutter cocks via the lever but for some reason the lever is not under pressure and will not release, as if a spring has gone, plus an ambi sillette where the spring that pulls the wind on lever is gone so I have to push it back, but apart from that the camera works perfectly

FED-3 purchased non-working, for parts. Another FED-3 purchased as working, but 30, 60, 15 speeds gives shutter clapping. I think, this is it for now.

At least 8 or 9 SLR's needing new shutter curtains and general repair.maintenance, some new mirrors etc - all quarter plate or larger.

12 or more wood/brass plate cameras plus one horizontal enlarger just needing bellows,, 5 or 6 other wood/brass plate cameras needing refurbishment - repairs to wood work or new brass bits (inc a Gandolfi).

Numerous book form plate holders part restored, a slow process but I want to use my 12"x10" plate camera quite soon :D

That's just part of my backlog

My original Nikon F-801 from 1989 has irregular film transport and sometimes it decides halfway the film it has done 36 frames. Another F-801s has a rough squeaky function wheel. I found a good service manual, so I'll try to repair them myself because they are too cheap for an official CLA, and I can learn from it at the same time. If necessary one good body is made from them by swapping parts.

I have two non-working cameras: a Contaflex SLR from the 1950s and a Taron rangefinder of about the same vintage. The Contaflex was my first camera, given to me by a long-deceased relative; the Taron belonged to my late father. I keep both of them on display for sentimental reasons, but I don't think that I would get either one repaired.

My Fujica ST901 meter is a bit wonky. I found a guy who said he could take a look at it here in the Chicago area. I just haven't got around to dropping it off. other than that, my cameras all function. A few may need the light seals and foam replaced but nothing more.

the problem with having so many cameras, if they sit in the closets for long periods, they tend to get lazy. i havent had time to use alot of my stuff n now finding lazy shutters n blind meters.

i may have to buy all new stuff!

My loyal Pentax K1000 jammed up this summer. Needs a CLA but that's far away on the too do list. Have other cameras that work and I can't really justify spending the money getting this fixed.

All my photographic equipment works. I do not work but that is because I am retired.

Me! Can't figure out if were retired, or retarded?
And often the equipment works much better than the operator at times, but having trouble with the dog gone range finder on my 2x3 getting stuck, and it won't adjust, and change unless we tap the darn side of it, for it to behave. So need to fix that soon, before it quits entirely. Rest of equipment doing well, but where did we put that dag gom 4x5.focal loupe, or did we drop it on a shoot, when we were using it on the 2x3?
So how many loupe's have you all lost? .

Most everything I have works, I can get a bit lazy though. Today one of my cats pinned me to the sofa for a late afternoon nap in the sun.

Nothing I have is not in any sort of condition where it doesn't work. The batteries in my GPS are flat, so that must count...

We are just finishing having the floors and bedrooms refinished in our house so had moved everything that was in the house out for a while. In moving back I discovered that some how, some way, I became the owner of a Miranda which evidently has not been used in 25 or so years and everything is "gummy" and doesn't work. Overhaul of shutter and lens would cost far more than one can be bought on eBay so it will stay broken. All the equipment that I knew about is in good condition and has been overhauled when needed...........Regards!
