My Grandfather's RolleiCord. I keep promising myself I'll find someone to revive it.
If the shutter won't fire, film advance is stuck, and when you press the shutter button the LEDs in the viewfinder go out, it's likely the shutter capacitor that is behind the bottom cover of the body that has failed, it can be replaced and usually this gets it working, if not, it could be another capacitor that is at the top left hand side of the camera. My Minolta X700 died on me yesterday. I'm on holiday and am on my way to a repair shop to see if they can fix it.
Actually I could, at first, advance the film but it wouldn't fire. Then the mirror stayed up and that was it.If the shutter won't fire, film advance is stuck, and when you press the shutter button the LEDs in the viewfinder go out, it's likely the shutter capacitor that is behind the bottom cover of the body that has failed, it can be replaced and usually this gets it working, if not, it could be another capacitor that is at the top left hand side of the camera.
It's happened to me twice with mine, one time it was the bottom capacitor which was replaced, and another time it was a problem with the shutter mechanism itself.
I'd suggest you join the Minolta Collectors FB group, they're usually very helpful there with troubleshooting.
My X-700 is also a Japan model, none of them are free from the capacitor problems, because the capacitors simply fail from age, it's worth repairing though rather than getting another body.Actually I could, at first, advance the film but it wouldn't fire. Then the mirror stayed up and that was it.
They emailed me that it is the curtain and it will cost HKD400 (€45,$52) to disassemble, repair and lubricate the shutter. I'll pick it up when I return to Hong Kong for two more nights before flying home.
I really wonder if it will all work out. The repair price is close to buying another one. But who knows what's going on inside that one. At least the shower should be fine, now. The camera is supposed to be a Japan made model. So I was surprised that the caps might be failing. I guess they are fine after all. There is a three month warranty on the fix, BTW.
I will probably look into that Minolta group.
Sometimes I only realize back home that I got a lemon...I've got too many non, and almost working ... but then again, I buy them that way![]()
I have been reading the threads related to how many cameras you have etc ... and I thought I put one up re: if you have any equipment that does not work?
For me I have a lens that fell over 7 months ago Nikon 18-35mm AF-D but it still works with the aperture ring and manual focus but the focus ring is rough.
