Even 'artists' get their grammar right. The word is 'you're, not 'your'. And that's just one of a number of your errors....so, if that's your standard, you're not exactly cruising at the speed limit.

"Editions, the reason no one considers photogaphy art..." is one of the stupidest statements I've ever read. I've lost all patience with this nonsense. Please...dazzle the planet....wake me when you've done so.

Ok, I think that we have established that an extreme point of view exists, that many "don't get" (I'll not be down on my knees anytime soon)

So let us get back on track, for those of us not hung up on the edition thing...

One thing that comes in to play here is language, and the desire to categorize things by label. I have always felt that labels reveal more about the individual giving the label, than the person being labeled, so if I call a particular photograph or anything else "art" that reveals more about me, than the work.
Same for the "art establishment" and the same for the general public. Our perception of something can only be colored by another's label, if we let it be so. Same for our self perception. When we succumb to our desire to believe we are who we think other people think we are, we are always off track. That's why "I'm an artist, and you're not" and "That's art, and that is not" doesn't work. It's just self absorbed cranial rectosis, that we are all guilty of to greater or lesser degree, in order to get by, and communicate.

Labels label only the labeler.

So, in order to define "photographic art" you must first define "art". It can't be done, except on a personal level. Thoughts?

OK, put your money where your mouth is. SHOW us your ground-breaking work which shows no influence from Adams or the Westons or anyone else who has pointed a view camera at a flowing stream or a tree or a building in Bodie. You keep accusing Bill of being too Kenna-like. The work of yours I've seen shows me nothing I haven't seen on endless websites or camera club meetings. Please, please demonstrate your mad skills. Do something to earn that badge you seem to wear on your forehead.

Kevin, this is the community that banded together a couple years ago to raise a substantial amount of money for fellow photographer/apuger in need.
Few knew you, many responded. Try to remember that.

Well..Well..Well,

First I would like to say Thank You, for your response - everyone of you.

I had NO idea when I posted that this would go in as many directions as it has. Some of it has been Very Good, Some a bit funny and some, I am sad to say has just been BAD!!

In order to try to shift the thread back to it's original intent and not about why one view is superior to another, I will ask that everyone agree that we can all decide what 'WE' consider art and if that means an edition of 1 that is great for the person that feels that way . I apologize, at least for starting the thread, because I have seen some comments that I feel were uncalled for - That's as far as I will get into that part of this.

The thread was started, to get input from the many members and provoke thought on the subject. I do have questions about the subject, but honestly feel that we sometimes lean a bit far into the technical side of the craft - and I do not exclude myself from that habit. At the same time, I find that too much navel gazing can get in the way as well.

After 14 pages and who knows how many post, I think the thread has completed it's run. Had the discussion been more about the original question, I think this would have been an excellent thread...as it is, it has become another of those ... well most of you know what I mean.

Thanks for the input and apology's for the background noise...

OK, just read the 'new' post that went up while I typed my post above and feel I should say something...

Kevin, if I may calling people names and flip remarks are not going to make people see your point of view. I would ask that if you can not reply in a civil manner please let this thread be.

If the Mods feel it best to shut this down, I have no objection - other than what should have been open discussion became a crusade by one person. Sorry everyone.
