g'day all

Kevin, photography is unlike any other art form, it has it's own way of doing things

artificially restricting one of it's basic concepts is just silly

anyway, isn't the negative the truly original/first/one off/stand alone/artist created work

you should be selling the negatives, or learning some other art making practice

The way this discussion has degenerated makes me understand the stereotypical notion of artists being a bunch of a**holes.

yeah I guess when you think about it... every bottle of scotch is, in fact, an original.

nor in mine.... the only one that lasts is the bottle of everclear above my coating table

Something sounds fishy.

You feel comfortable selling people what you deem to be "crap"?

I dot sell crap as I don't sell inkjets. If I sold inkjets I would be selling crap, but I don't sell them so no I don't sell crap. Did you read? I guess not.

(I really hope this thread doesn't reach 100 replies.)

Kevin;
If you choose to make one print and destroy the neg, that's your business but it does not make that one print art or you an artist. You can say it as much as you wish but saying "I am an artist" does not make it so.

What you are doing is quickly becoming cliche. Your babbling is blurring any sense you think you may be making. Believe me, the people responding to your diatribe know exactly what you are saying and I think better than you know what your saying.

Excellent, I have finally achieved the artist status. Thanks for the compliment!

Cool down there big shooter, no need to get all wound up. I merely asked a question.

The print I make form the scan is a reproduction not an original as it is printed by a lab on a digital process. .

Can you explain the "digital process"?

Last thing I'll say, as the horse is dead, and the lambs to slaughter and all that stuff.

1/1 is an edition of one. That won't change what it is. It is a photograph, made by a photographer that is trying to create art, the "art" and "artist" being another matter entirely. The artifact isn't the art, any more than the printed words of the poem are the poem. It is what the words say that matters. Same for a photograph.

Typical of you too Bruce, you didn't read my original post either. I never said it does or it doesn't . Go back and read what I said. I am starting to think APUGGERS do not know how to read or maybe refuse to read.

This is exactly what I said.

It doesn't matter what we think it is what the public thinks, and most of the public looks at a photo and says, yup I can do that. You just pushed a button.

the public will continue to think of the work as pretty pictures, just another click of the shutter image for the wall, etc... Another dime a dozen photograph...

...OUTSIDE the photography box...
Kevin, dig all you want. I just think "artists" and "photographers" would do better at separating themselves from the pack by spending their energy on the way they see rather that worrying about parlor tricks and gimicks to do so.

Oh Kevin,

Yes what is typical of me is that I did read the original, and the subsequent posts proclaiming your status as "Artist". I am not going to enumerate the occasions but enough times to almost get me to believe you.

NO Bruce apparently you didn't.

KJS - Perhaps someone among the 10s of thousands of APUGers has actually read all the way to this point. For that I am amazed and feel I should apologize for the long-windedness. But I do enjoy discussing such things and feel the effort of typing it all out makes it worthwhile.

I think the problem is comprehending your own words...how they come off, appear.

Oh you mean like your editions?

'dems bold words for a guy who was tier pricing his work

Address my questions posted previously regarding noted artists and their lithographs or photographs.

I want to get married, have one kid and name him ART.

Remember all, if KJS says so, it must be...Now you're calling Bruce a liar..
...stoke a fire, burn all your past editions and be happy.

It is clear that all this fear I see coming from you guys shows me I am on the right track, so for that I thank you. This is a waste of my time so I am signing off this thread.

Keyword WAS no longer.

Kevin, go take some pictures. And think about pushing boundaries in your vision rather than obsessing about how you label yourself. If the work has no voice, an edition of 1 has no more intrinsic value than an edition of carps.

Looks like you better start getting on your knees. It is funny how none of my art is a copy Kenna. I am making my name off my back Bill not others, so you better get out your knee pads because you will be soon kneeling a lot.

I did, I make one original from a single negative. Destroy the negative
After that print sells with the negative I only offer a cheap reproduction, just like a painters does after they sell the only painting they made.

thanks for the explaination kevin.
i had a feeling that was what you were doing.
but wasn't sure ....
still sounds like editions -- just named differently
