I recently acquired an F3HP that is missing its eyepiece. Internet research suggests that the DK-17 series which are available new, although not identical to the original part, should fit and function identically. Can anyone confirm this from personal experience?

Also has anyone tried the DK-17M 1.2x magnifying eyepiece on an F3HP? Did you like the result, and is the eye relief still sufficient to allow glasses/spectacles to be worn with this combination?

Many thanks,
Andrew

The original standard eyepiece for the F3 was called - wait for it - F3 Finder Eyepiece [or F3 High Eye Point Finder Eyepiece for the F3HP]. No other part number was used, though I am sure that Nikon had an internal reference number for the part.

The difference between the original eyepiece and the DK-17 is that the DK-17 has notches cut into the thread ring so that the eyepiece locks into place and can't be removed when the shutter blind is engaged on the D2, D3, D700, D800, F6 etc.

The DK-17 will work just fine on the F3/F3HP

Thanks macfred.

I'm actually quite keen to get one to try the DK-17M, since I don't currently use glasses when shooting and it should give 90% magnification, which is better that the non-HP F3's 80%. (I suspect that it would have insufficient eye relief for glasses wearers, though).
