I think you are protesting too hard, those suggestion that recommend that you just don't bother with DIY/homebrews with your ridiculously low color processing throughput but here goes:

Fuji Hunt makes or at least used to make an RA-4 compatible process with separate bleach and fix steps so that the bleach could be regenerated. So it has been done professionally, and anyone that remembers the old Kodak processes knows how many steps more than three can be used.

But here, as an exercise in masochism is a suggested workflow for the DIY.

You could try a ferricyanide/bromide bleach as a separate step and then follow with a rinse and then a non hardening rapid fixer or neutral pH rapid fixer at film strength, C-41 fixer would also work. To preserve your fix use a rinse between, this bleach is bad on fixer and the combo is Farmer's Reducer.

You could even try doing all the steps after the stop bath and rinse in low room light (and if you have a Wratten #13 filter process the first steps under a safelight). Tray processing is better than tubes for your DIY scheme.
