The images show the dislodged mirror in a Nikon F-301 slr.
Any advise as to how to fix this would be welcome
The two images show the whole camera, the second a close up of the problem

regards
Tony

I know you didn't ask for this advice, but a used F301 (AKA in USA as N2000) are so inexpensive it seems more prudent to buy a new body and keep that one for spares.

Judging by the scars on the lens mount, someone's already been in there attempting a repair.

Not a good sign...

I do not disagree

Most cost effective repair....e-bay search for N2020? Otherwise, the service manual is out there somewhere, just need to search a little.

It appears the pivot pin/shaft or retainer has broken or the mirror box is distorted allowing the pivot shaft to come out of position.
Solved :- The small metallic pins that have corresponding holes on the mirror act as a hinge for the mirror. One of those pins had dislodged from the hole in the mirror, causing the mirror to rotate incorrectly
Clicked the mirror unit into what seems to be the correct position and it now works

Tony

Congratulations! Hope it stays put. Might run it through a multitude of actuations in varying positions before you commit a roll of film...
