Though it is not a discontinuation of the film itself, I got a report today saying that Neopan 100 Acros would no longer be available in Quick load. It looks as though they will make it as boxed sheets now and I don't think it was available that way before.

I think the QuickLoad discontinuation was announced several months ago...not long after Kodak dropped T-Max ReadyLoads.

I'm very, very sorry that Ilford is no longer making FP4+ and HP5+ in 220, but I still have some in the fridge. I guess I might as well shoot it, but I will be sorry to see it go.

Which B&W films from ex Soviet union and ex communist area are discontinued that you liked / tested? I am asking because I would like to get them (if possible) on ebay, and test them. If they are foggy and bad - maybe in combination with Lith print I can get some interesting results anyhow.

East-Germany Orwo films resurface on bay quite regularly. In various shapes and condition. Was lucky to get some refrigated NP-15 expired in 92 (the attachment is made on this), no fogging whatsoever, amazing stuff.
But most of available films from soviet era are slightly rotten at least already.

If we are to talk about long time discontinued, let's not forget Royal-X Pan (1250 ASA).

I miss:

1) APX 100 / 400 (though I still have quite a stash of APX 100 in 135 and 120 and APX 400 in 135).
2) BRF200 (still have some in 135 and 120 in its various Arista.EDU, Fortepan, and Bergger guises)

I guess there's hope that FotoImpex can resurrect the APX films but there's no such hope for BRF200. That's a real shame.

There are a lot of great papers that have gone - but what really bugs me is that the replacements tend to be just gloss or matt.

Well, ok, maybe it isn't quite that bad, you might find some pearl or semi-matt, but only in limited ranges.

Years ago the number of surfaces available was amazing.

Anyone remember Brovira Crystal? Kentona Velvet Stipple? All the satins, silks, sheens, velours and velvets? The Suedes, Tapestry, linen, parchment?

I've still got some Portriga in 'Royal Fine Lustre' and some Kentona 'Stipple' in working order. Alas the 'Crystal' has patchy fog I've even got a packet of Barnet bromide in 'Tiger Tooth'! (Very dead, mind...)

When they're gone it will be just gloss or matt , take it or leave it. Now Kentmere has been taken over, all their individual art surfaces will be soon gone, too. Most are already. I've just checked the Kentmere site and it is basically gloss or gloss...

I feel the loss of paper far more than film. The best overall paper in my opinion, especially for neutral to cold images, was Kodak Polymax Fine Art. The deepest blacks of all the VC fiber papers in my opinion. Then there was Agfa MC111 VC, exceptional tonal range and great toning variability. Forte's Polycontrast VC was another great paper for toning.

the best graded paper that has gone away was the original Oriental Seagull. I had pretty limited experience with it before it went away, but it was a joy to use.

For paper, I'd have to say Portriga-Rapid, before the formulation change in the mid-80's. Beautiful stuff, that was...

The old Ilfobrom was pretty sweet, too.
