I've been watching spotmeters on eBay and one of them has a +10 diopter lens that the seller says is used for spot metering macro subjects. I've never heard of this use for a spot meter.

I'm interested in portraiture, landscape and still lifes. Would this be to my advantage or go back on the market as soon as possible?

Thanks in advance

Might be useful for your still lifes. However, any close-up lens screwed to the front of a spotmeter's lens like a filter will do the same thing. The reason is that you need the target to be in focus to get a correct meter reading and the meter is unlikely to focus closer than a few metres away without a close-up lens adaptor.

Cheers, Bob.

MT,
Yes, the diopter will allow you to focus more closely but I doubt it will have any effect on the accuracy of the meter. One of the biggest advantages of CU lenses is they have no effect on exposure.

Thanks for the info, it's good stuff to know. I decided to pass on the meter and bought a different one.
