I have been reading many of the threads about creating the digital negatives with the specific QTR profiles for Pure Palladium and i have a few questions for all of you guys who seem to have much more experience (than my 2 months) in this process.

I have looked into the ChartThrob and i am running those tests now for a very accurate correction curve and i Totally understand that.

The post where Clay talks about the 2200 Profile that if is set up, you really do not need a correction curve confuses me a bit for these reasons.

1) I have QuadTone Rip set up on my Macbook Pro (OSX) but i can not figure out how to load that profile in so that it shows up when i want to print from Photoshop (CS4). I am new to the QTR stuff and have only used it a few times when it was already all set up for me. Can you (Clay) give more detailed instructions on how to set that up?
2)Once I set that profile up for my Epson 2200, is it a good idea to still use the ChartThrob and come up with yet another correction curve for fine tuning?? (I would obviously do this later after i played with printing straight out of the printer profile that is provided).

If you guys could lend your advice to me that would be much appreciated. I am a student at Colorado State University and there just aren't any Pt/Pd printers around (unless anyone knows of one or is one) here that i have been able to look to for advice. And i would like to learn as much as i could in the coming weeks.

My prints thus far have been working well, but i know that i am still having some difficulties with too much contrast in some and just not enough density. Thanks alot for all of your help.

I think what Clay means is that your correction curve (however you derive it) is programmed automatically in the QTR profile when you build it. You should go to Ron Reeder's site and read everything he has there in pdf form; really a wealth of information in this regard.

Of course, you can always run ChartThrob again after having exposing your QTR negative. I believe this is what Sandy does. I'm sure he'll chime in if I've got it wrong ;-)

Sometimes you can just make a few adjustments to the QTR profile manually in the Curve Creation tool. Once again, Ron's site has some good info on this.

Re: myself...I started using Ron's palladium profile for QTR on an Epson 3800 and printed the ChartThrob wedge, found my basic exposure time, made some profile adjustments for contrast and started making negs and exposing them. I haven't changed anything in a few months but am planning on running a comparison between 3 different profile mods tomorrow just to double check things. I think it's a good idea to step back once in a while and make sure your goals and taste in printing is in line with where you want to go personally.

That is correct. There is a correction curve, .acv same as you create in Photoshop in the QTR profile. You can change the curve if you like. My advice would be to strip out the curve from Clay's profile for pure palladium, then run your own tests following Ron Reeder's instructions, and insert that curve in the profile.

The other option, which I followed for a long time before Ron taught me how to work QTR, is to use the QTR profile as is, then run ChartThrob to create a second .acv curve, which is applied to the positive file before inverting. Then you just proceed and print with the QTR profile.

Both methods work well, but the most elegant solution is to get it all right in the QTR profile.

Ok So i have everything set up and it is just NOT Printing! It will send it to the Print Queue for the Quad2200 Printer i have set up, but then i just sends my media right on through the printer and reports the job as finished printing. Any Ideas??
