I have seen many complaints about having difficulties with non-commercial 510 pyro such as unexpected results in contrast and similar issues. I wanted to know the bottom line: What are all the problems and how is it possible to solve them?

Thanks for response in advance

The solution is to use either PMK or Pyrocat.

Or, buy it from Bostick and Sullivan. It's inexpensive and ready to go.

I've not had any issues with either the 510-Pyro I've mixed (with 10 year old TEA and 10 year old Phenidone) or with that which a friend mixed.

Those problems can pop up with any developer. 510 isn't particularly good or bad at dealing with high-contrast situations.

What are all the problems

That's a very open question; I'd bounce that back to you and ask which problems you're trying to solve.

Having said that, I never cared much for 510 pyro; there's nothing it does exceptionally well. If a staining developer is desired, something like Pyrocat is really superior in most ways.

Also, welcome to Photrio!

I mixed up some when the formula first appeared. I was very displeased with the very low shadow speed, the worst I've ever seen. I didn't persevere. Since then, the formula has been revised with more phenidone. See

Maybe that has alleviated the speed problem.
