Different color of MC on Planar 80mm for Rolleiflex SL66

Does anybody know a difference between a two different color of multicoating on Planar 80mm HTF lenses. Left is older lens (more visible MC, pinky color, serial number 804xxxxx), right is newer lens (less visible MC, more blueish color, serial number 805xxxxx). In live is more easy to see a different.

Take a photograph with each and see if there is any difference.

I would not bother with the colour, but instead with the density resp. luminance of the reflection. But what we see here is only tiny part of what goes on in the lens.

If you really want to be wiser, mount the body on a sturdy tripod, set up a lighting situation that produces ghost images (you could include a resolution chart too), then expose on the same film with both lenses at same setting.

Better yet, clean both lenses and then see how they look.
Or, are these pictures of lenses off the internet? If so, ignore the differences in color cast.

Were they both made in Germany? Was one made by Rollei, and the other by Zeiss? The HFT process was a modification of Zeiss' T* process that was more amicable to mass production, but they produced nearly similar results. Lenses produced by Zeiss for Rollei were T* coated, but marked HFT.

Plus, there is some variation in the AR process, more so in the HFT than T*.

I'm the owner of that two lenses which are made by Rollei. I will test them on the same scene.

Even if the coating is somewhat different, I doubt that it will produce any visible difference. Some years ago I did an extensive test on slide film with all my SL66 lenses from 50-250mm, some with HFT, some with the old coating. The final conclusion was that type of coating barely mattered. The professional shade with masks, on the other hand, made a world of a difference with backlit pictures.

I'm not sure how the SL66 lenses were labelled, as I don't own one yet.

My Rollei 35mm lenses say "Carl Zeiss" on the front ring, and "Made in West Germany" on the back, both for lenses I know were made by Zeiss, and lenses that were very likely made by Rollei. There is probably a way to tell by serial numbers. Lenses from the Singapore factory had "Made by Rollei" on the front ring, and "Made in Singapore" on the back, or side.

The difference in coating color is the vintage of the coatings. The one on the left is the early version and the one on the right is the later multi coating. If your eye is as good as the optical equipment used to design and determine the effects of the coatings or better then yiou will see a difference.

Lenses on or for Rolleiflex cameras made by Zeiss carry both 'Carl Zeiss' and the lens name, 'Planar' for instance. Lenses made by Rollei carry only the lens name ('Planar') and often 'Made in Germany by Rollei' or just 'Made by Rollei'.
